There are three South Korean car makers and all of them are well represented in M’sia.

For some reason, it’ s called Hyundai-Sime Darby Motors.
In West Malaysia, i’ve seen the Atos, Matrix, Trajet, Getz & Sonata. We also have the Hyundai Accent (thanks NC).

Ssangyong is Korea’s off-roaders specialist. Thanks to the technology transferred from Mercedes-Benz, it developed some good off-roaders from zero within a few years. Also don’t forget the Chairman luxurious sedan, Korea’s first and still the best luxurious car.

The Asian ecomonic crisis in 1998 hit Daewoo hard. Burdened by heavy debt, Daewoo was sold to General Motors in 2002. The Korean no.2 car maker has modern new factories and R&D facilities, but its brand image was too weak. GM decided to operate Daewoo as an OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) supplying cars to Chevrolet, Holden & Suzuki.
