K-popped Trio! is in the mood for Hari Raya

After stuffing our faces with mooncake last night – man, the variety available these days is amazing, huh? Lotus paste, green tea with lotus seed, dark choc and even jelly mooncakes! – the K-popped! Trio are now ready to move on to the next celebration: Hari Raya Puasa!

Now: Inviting readers to get into the Hari Raya mood.

Hari Raya Puasa (or simply Hari Raya, which means Day of Celebration) marks the culmination of Ramadhan, the holy month of fasting. This year, Raya falls on Oct 13.

Yes, our Muslim friends are currently observing a daylight fast and will do so until the 1st day of Syawal (Oct 13). Open houses are the norm and family and friends of other races are invited to join in the celebrations.

So what’s cooking during the season? Ketupat (rice cakes wrapped in coconut leaves) is traditional Hari Raya fare. Rooster‘s holding some at the masthead (pic above). The rice cakes are often served with beef rendang (beef cooked with spices and coconut milk) or satay (grilled meat on a skewer).

Of course, there will also be loads of kuih Raya (sweet delicacies) to enjoy (Rooster‘s trying to steal some from me at the masthead. Yeah, don’t think I didn’t notice ;-P).

Children also enjoy the festivities by playing with fire sparklers, like what Orchid‘s doing (pic above).

Before: Toting their lanterns about the site for the
Mid-Autumn Festival

All said, the K-popped! Trio would like invite all readers to enjoy the Hari Raya atmosphere at our site. Selamat berpuasa (for now) and Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri (when it comes around) to all our Muslim readers!

Keep on K-popping, everyone!

Rooster is great with details too. If you look closely at the masthead, Liz is wearing a purple Baju Kurung. And my caricature Orchid is wearing a lime green Baju Kebaya. Both the baju kurung & kebaya are traditional Malay outfits. Both are very elegant and the baju kurung is also comfortable.

Plus the colour green and purple are favoured by Malays during the festive season. Just like red, green and white are synonymous with Christmas.

i love the new masthead. great job, rooster. thank you for sharing cultural information. i just realized how familiar the term “hari raya puasa” sounded. i think muslim filipinos do some form of the celebration.
