Spacemen: Korea and Malaysia

To infinity and beyond!

Rooster wrote about Korea’s first astronaut in September. Thirty-year-old Ko San will head for outer space in April 2008 onboard a Soyuz spacecraft.

Yesterday (Oct 10, 2007), Malaysia made history when Dr Sheikh Muszaphar Shukor, Malaysia’s first astronaut, blasted off from the Baikonur Cosmodrome, Kazakhstan at 9.22pm (Malaysian time)!

Everyone was glued to the TV last night as the nation witnessed the historic event through a live feed from Kazakhtan.

The 35-year-old orthopaedic surgeon, who is also a part-time model, is onboard the Russian Soyuz TMA-11. He will be spending 10 days in space, including eight onboard the International Space Station (ISS).

As for Korea’s Ko San, the soon-to-be spaceman is residing in Russia to continue training for his expedition next year!
