Kim Jae-won is a killer kisser

Taiwan's Jolin Tsai, 27 and Korean hunk Kim Jae-won (My Love Patzzi) are stopping by in Paris, London and Thailand to film Tsai's 'Agent J' music video (MV).

Jolin Tsai & Kim Jae-won in Tsai's new MV 'Agent J'

According to reports, female actors who have worked with 26-year-old Kim Jae-won all say he is a good kisser (direct Korean translation : Best kissing skill man). Fooyuh. We don't blame Tsai for picking him to star in her latest music video.

Thus, one fine day while filming the music video, Tsai was anxiously waiting for the arrangements for the sunset kissing scene in Paris. But alas, Kim was down with a cold, and the kissing scene had to be cancelled that day.

'Agent J' Music Video

Tsai plays a female spy who suffers from amnesia (think Bourne Identity, female version). Kim Jae-won is a cop who is assigned to track her down. At the end of the video, Tsai shoots Kim and he dies, giving her one final killer-smile. With that, Tsai regains her memory to remember that they were lovers before. Awww shucks!

  • Besides a great kisser, Kim Jae-won is nicknamed 'killing smile' or 'smile angel' for his famous smile.
  • According to a fan, one of the best kissing scenes in Korean drama history is when Kim Jae-won kisses Jang Na-ra in the fountain scene on My Love Patzzi. Oh who saw that? Who saw that?
  • Jolin Tsai is one of Taiwan's highest paid female entertainers!
The only time i saw Kim Jae-won was in his movie 100 Days with Mr Arrogant with Ha Ji-won. At that time, i thought he is really cute - has these huge eyes and nice dimples. That was before i knew what he could do with his lips. :-)

More on k-drama Smile Again

Korean drama 'Smile Again' (스마일 어게인) is currently airing on 8TV here in Malaysia. The drama stars cutie Lee Dong-gun and soon-to-be-married Kim Hee-sun. Before Kim Hee-sun was awarded the role of female lead, the one who was supposed to play Lee Dong-gun's love interest was Ha Ji-won. Many Korean drama fans were very disappointed when this didn't materialise.

The Original Sound Track (OST) for 'Smile Again' contains a song by Se7en, so listen closely. :-)

Here i leave you with a few drama stills.

Happy Merdeka!

Here are some freshly baked Merdeka cupcakes for all our readers in conjunction with Malaysia's 50th birthday.

Thank you for your support. 감사합니다.

Happy 50th birthday Malaysia!

Today, Malaysia celebrates its 50th year of independence! Merdeka!!! (Bahasa Malaysia - our national language - for Freedom!)

We gained our independence from British rule (which explains why we write British-English instead of American-English, huh?) on Aug 31, 1957.

In conjunction with our Golden Jubilee celebration, here's some information on our country, along with a look at its respective Korean counterpart.

Map

Malaysia is represented in orange above.

Malaysia is made up of Peninsular Malaysia (a.k.a. West Malaysia) and the northern part of the Borneo Island (a.k.a. East Malaysia). K-popped! is located at the peninsula. Well, two out of the three of us for now, eh Rooster? :-P

South Korea in yellow

Confession time: Before I got hit by the Hallyu, I didn't know where Korea was and did not understand the hoo-hah between North and South Korea. Now that has changed. I got to know about South Korea - also a peninsula! - because of the Korean Wave. North Korea? Pretty much synonymous with nuclear weapons!

Flag

Called the Jalur Gemilang
(Bahasa Malaysia for Stripes of Glory)
  • The stripes represent the equal status in the federation of the 13 member states and the Federal Government, as represented by the Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur and Labuan.
  • The colours red and white symbolise courage and purity respectively.
  • The blue canton symbolises the unity of the people of Malaysia.
  • The crescent is the symbol of Islam, the official religion of Malaysia.
  • The 14 points of the star signify the unity of the 13 states of the federation with the Federal Government.
  • The colour yellow signifies the royal colour of the Rulers.

Called the Taegeukgi (태극기)
  • Also known as the Yin-Yang Flag, which embodies the philosophy of the Korean people.
  • White background symbolises peace. It also stands for the purity and homogeneity of the Korean people as well as the white clothing traditionally worn by commoners.
  • The blue-red yin yang symbol stands for eternal duality from where all life derives its existence.
  • The trigrams at the four corners represent heaven, earth, fire and water.

National flower

Hibiscus (Bunga raya in Bahasa Malaysia)
  • Chosen as the national flower because it's found in abundance in our country.
  • Many varieties but the five-petaled Hibiscus rosa sinensis was chosen above the others because it is the most symbolically relevant.
  • The five petals symbolise the Rukunegara (the Five Principles of Nationhood).
  • The colour red represents courage.
Rose of Sharon (Mugunghwa in Hangul)
  • A flower that remains in bloom for a long time.
  • Symbolises the dauntless spirit of the Koreans, who have overcome many hardships.

Traditional costume(s)

Yikes! This category is a headache for Malaysia as there are so many ethnicities represented in our country! If you don't already know, Malaysia is one of the most ethnically and religiously diverse nations in the world today. The world's major religions, as well as major Asian ethnic groups, are represented in our country.

Yes, Malaysia, truly Asia. ;-) Due to the diversity of our people, I will only show you some of our traditional costumes. For a more detailed look at the traditional wear, please go to: www.heritage.gov.my (I actually got most of the pics there).

The three major races in our country (left to right):
Malay, Chinese and Indian

  • Malay: The lady is wearing a baju kurung while the man is in a baju Melayu. The man's headgear is called a songkok.
  • Chinese: The lady is wearing a cheongsam while the man is in a samfoo.
  • Indian: The lady is wearing a saree while the man is in a kurta.

Indeginous people of Sarawak, East Malaysia
(left to right): Iban and Ulu

Indeginous people of Sabah, East Malaysia
(left to right): Kadazan and Murut

Traditional costume of Korea
Hanbok (한복)
  • The winter hanbok is stuffed with cotton and the trousers are tied with bands at the ankles to better insulate the body.
  • The summer hanbok is made of starched hemp cloth or ramie to maximise the diffusion of body heat.
Food

Yummy Nasi Lemak
  • Malaysia does not have an official national dish but by default, the honour would have to go to nasi lemak.
  • Rice cooked in coconut milk.
  • The dish is available on almost every street corner and in almost every local-themed restaurant.
  • Can be quite spicy as it is served with sambal or rendang or curry.

Kimchi
  • The must-have dish for Koreans.
  • Fermented dish.
  • Ingredients and preparation method differ according to the seasons.

Ha Ji-won (하지원)

Oh, so she's the lead in Phone, which opened in Malaysia on Nov 21, 2002. And hey, I watched her in 100 Days with Mr Arrogant on TV a couple of months back.

She doesn't impress me that much as an actress; have I been watching her better works? Probably not because the Hwangjini miniseries is supposedly good?

Anyway, Ha Ji-won debuted on television in 1997 on KBS TV. Three years later, she bagged the Best New Actress trophy at the Grand Bell Awards for her debut film Truth or Dare. The actress then went on to win a Blue Dragon Best Supporting Actress Award for her second flick, Ditto (2000).

After getting more recognition through horror flicks such as A Nightmare (2000) and Phone (2002), Ji-won went on to star as a cheerleader in Sex is Zero, one of the most successful comedies of 2002.

It is also reported that the actress attempted a recording career that same year, but I think nothing came out of it. I've not seen any of her later works...is she worth checking out?

Based on HanCinema's ranking, she's the 4th Most Wanted actress in Korea, after Song Hye-kyo, Choi Ji-woo and Lee Young-ae (in that particular order).

Han Ji-hye (한지혜)

Han Ji-hye is a South Korean actress and model. I first saw her in the movie My Boyfriend is Type-B (2004), and she is quite cute in the movie.

Born Lee Ji-hye, she used the stagename "Han Ji-hye" upon learning that her real name would cause confusion among fans with an older actress, Lena Lee, who has the same Korean name as Han.

Han Ji-hye used to date actor Lee Dong-Gun.

Filming the movie - A Destiny

Do you think Kwon Sang-woo sshi has finished filming 'A Destiny'? How come he is traveling to Bali and maybe even to Malaysia? I've read that filming of the movie is about 80% complete. I can't wait for the movie to be released!

Anyway, here are some pics of the filming in Jeju, South Korea.

Watch out for...Destiny - the movie

Remember we told you about Kwon Sang-woo's new movie Destiny?

In the movie, Kwon plays an ambitious character named Cheol-Jung. In order to become Cheol-Jung, he hides his well-built body in a black suit and slicks his hair back, to portray a powerful man.

Song Seung-Hun plays the protagonist in the movie. He chose ‘Destiny’ to be his first movie after returning from military service. He throws away his former soft and loving character and portrays a strong and hard personality in this movie. His trademark, puppy-dog eyes seem to look gentle, but plays an explosively wild-natured character named Woo-Min.

It has been said that Kwon Sang-Woo and Song Seung-Heon have been impressing the director and staff members of the ‘Destiny’ movie production with their impeccable acting abilities. They are said to be great friends.

Korean film Destiny a.k.a. "Sookmyeong" has been sold to Japan's Formula Entertainment at a landmark price of USD2 million. The sale is by far the highest price recorded for a Korean film export in 2007. In the first six months of the year, the total value of 148 sales deals added up to only $7.5 million. (As reported on Variety Asia Online)

The film is directed by Kim Hae-gon who also directed "Between Love and Hate".

TVXQ sings theme song for The Legend

Popular boyband TVXQ (or DBSK) will record the theme song for pansy-looking Bae Yong-joon's upcoming drama, The Legend!

The series, which is said to be the most expensive production in Korean drama history, will be airing in Japan, Korea and Chinese-speaking countries. Will Malaysia be included...eventually?

However, more focus will be given to Korea and Japan since Mr. Bae (pic left), who celebrated his 35th birthday yesterday, makes the Japanese chickadees rabid with desire.

TVXQ will sing a track entitled A Thousand Years Love, which is composed by Joe Hisaishi, the music director behind Howl's Moving Castle and Spirited Away.

The Legend (or Tae Wang Sa Shin Gin) is about the life of Korea's legendary warrior. It stars Mr. Bae and is directed by Kim Jong-hak. The 24-episode drama will be aired in Korea from Sept 11 onwards. A "Making of" documentary, including interviews with the stars, will be aired a day earlier on Sept 10.

Meanwhile, TVXQ will be releasing a single from their 13th album in Japan on Sept 19.

U-know Yun-ho, that shirt is a no go

What... is... THAT?

No no, not that thing in the red box (although, what is that thing in the red box?), his shirt! Hello Colonel Sander's long lost nephew! You must be promoting KFC's latest concoction.

Hot boy band TVXQ began their fan signing trek across Asia earlier this month visiting Beijing (gee, where was I?), Shanghai, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Japan to promote their October concert.

Oh, maybe I'm the fashion prude as Lee Seon Gyoon from the hit drama Coffee Prince and Super Junior's Lee Dong Hae seem pretty comfortable in this vandalized garment.

How much did they pay for that, I wonder.
But whatever it is, I could've done it for half the price.

A peek into Eugene's home

Are you guys missing Eugene (Kim Yoo-jin) now that Love Truly has ended its run on 8TV?

Well, we have something for those who are missing the cute and sweet lead actress badly - a peek into her home!

The pics below are reportedly of the 26-year-old's house and it sure looks lovely. Bold red against a pale-themed room. Also, don't you just love the sunflowers in the corner? The best of all is the white grand piano!

Coffee Prince - the Special 18th Episode

Thanks to all who commented on What the heck is Coffee Prince? and provided reviews and links on the drama.

It sounds like a really good drama and we Malaysian's can't wait for it to be screened on our shores. Among other things, the drama deals with homosexuality. Something not common in Korean dramas. (Dying is common. Why do the heroin or hero always need to suffer from some terminal disease? Or meet with a tragic accident!) Plus it is said that the casting is superb!

Coffee Prince is so well received that i read (www.dramabeans.com) they had a special 18th episode made! The drama is only 17-episodes long. The special 18th episode contains behind-the-scenes footages, NGs, etc. and it was reserved for a special broadcast.

Hyo-ri and Jessica are liars

So Lee Hyo-ri and Jessica Alba teamed up for an Isa Knox commercial recently, right? Now we'll tell you what the advert's concept is about.

The commercial is for the beauty brand's Double Effect Advanced Serum and it will emphasise the stars' sex appeal (what's new?) and embrace their unique charm.

The CF starts with a tearful Hyo-ri breaking up with her boyfriend. Jessica is also breaking up with her boyfriend, but she is smiling. The heading reads: "A woman's face is lies".

Later, the situation is reversed: Now that they are away from their respective exes, the girls reveal their true feelings. We see Hyo-ri smiling and Jessica weeping!

According to Chosun Ilbo, the ad is suggesting that women are able to hide their true emotions behind a facade. They make no bones about telling a lie in order to break up with their boyfriends.

Isa Knox reportedly said that the tagline: "A woman's face is lies" actually denotes that a woman's skin is a lie, too....

What the fish? I'm confused, is the commercial for the brand or against it? If the report is accurate, then the ad - which is scheduled to be aired in Korea next month - is suffering from bad concept-itis.

Is Isa Knox digging its own grave?

Hit the Chosun Ilbo link above to read the original report.
