Shinhwa's final concert...for now

Goodbye: Shinhwa performs for the masses at
Fencing Stadium at Seoul's Olympic Park

Korea's popular man-band Shinhwa held a concert on March 30 in celebration of their 10th year in showbiz.

The Shinhwa Must Go On 10th Anniversary Live concert was a three-and-a-half hour extravaganza that included a few encores.

Song: The guys belt their hearts out...

As the sextet got ready to step offstage, the large screen onstage started playing a video of the band's close friends, who shared the ups and downs they went through with the members for the past 10 years.

Dance:...and shows off some smooth dance moves

Shinhwa members were pleasantly surprised. All of them sat down and watched the video. Deeply moved by the "walk down memory lane" with their closest friends, the guys openly shed tears.

Revolving couch: Now you see them...

They were then presented with a cake and everyone present sang Happy Birthday together with the guys.

...now you don't

The concert was the final performance for Shinhwa for the next 3 years. Members Eric and Kim Dong-wan will be enlisting in the army soon.

Cancellation of FT Island concert in Malaysia

Fans in yellow (FT Island's official colour) hanging around the entrance
to the concert venue

It is 6.30pm on Sunday (March 30) and the atmosphere outside Sunway Lagoon’s Elephant Walk Entrance is somber.

The concert ushers report for duty but discover that the show has been cancelled

Many fans are shocked and in disbelief that the FT Island 1st Live in Malaysia concert has been cancelled.

Fans want the show to go on!

Some fans got wind of the cancellation at around 4pm, just three and a half hours before the curtain rises!

Fans are still hanging around the entrance to the concert venue, praying that the situation will change. They are hoping that the F.T. Island boys will miraculously show-up.

Fans linger outside the entrance to the concert venue in
hopes that the boys will turn up

“We are here because we are hoping things will change. Maybe they could just appear and lip sync or something…anything,” says Nur Aliyah who is here with 5 of her friends namely Amelia, Aqilah, Farah, Nur Aliyah (yes, they share the same name) and Mimi.

Aliyah (the 1st one) adds: “We only ever get to see them on the Internet and this was our chance to see them in the flesh! We are very disappointed.

"We are Malaysians, we live here…can you imagine how the fans from other countries must feel? They come all the way from Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia….We want to know why this happened?”

Disappointed fan

However, the girls strongly believe that FT Island is not at fault. Word on the grapevine is that the FT Island management and local organisers C.I. Entertainment had a fallout and the boys’ management is preventing them from performing.

It is said that the management is extremely dissatisfied with the arrangements made by the local organisers. They are unhappy with the hotel (Grand Millenium) and venues of the events (Izzi Restaurant for the PC, and Party House for the Global Fan Meet/ Birthday Party).

Korean Press reporter talks to the fans

Amelia says, “We are understanding fans. We don’t want to mogok (protest) or anything like that. Also, we don’t want FT Island to be blamed for this. We know it is not their fault.”

Unofficial story

The only C.I. Entertainment rep at the concert venue refuses to comment on the situation. However, the person divulges that the FT Island boys are still in Malaysia, but the concert is cancelled. The person politely asks K-popped! to wait for the official press release.

Strong support for Min-hwan (drummer) and Jong-hun (lead guitarist)

Strictly hearsay, fans inform K-popped! that C.I. Entertainment had pleaded with FT Island’s management from 8am to 2.30pm today (March 30) to continue with the concert.

When the Korean management still refused to give in to their plea, the local organisers attempted to dupe the manager to appear at the concert venue to explain things to the fans.

They lied that they were taking the person to the airport, but the manager discovered their ruse and jumped out of the car.

Red, yellow and blue -- that's how the fans felt, BLUE.
It drizzled a little on this sad day

Again, we stress that this is hearsay. Neither C.I Entertainment nor the Korean management has commented on the situation.

From across the border

An FT Island fan from Singapore, who wants to remain anonymous, says she is extremely disappointed. She only discovered about the concert cancellation when she arrived at the venue.

Disgruntled Indonesian fans

“We would like to know the reason behind it. They (FT Island) are already here and the concert venue has been set up. Why cancel? After all, they are only here for one concert.”

The Singaporean fan is part of the group that bought the fan package, which includes the Global Fan Meet/ Birthday Party with the FT Island boys yesterday (March 29). She informs K-popped! that yesterday’s event was almost cancelled as well.

'Give us FT Island, not our money back!' (A Singapore fan represents with a flag)

“The Global Fan Meet was almost cancelled. We waited for about 6 hours before FT Island turned up. They finally managed to persuade the boys to show up at the last minute. This delayed the fan meeting and autograph session later in the afternoon.”

Fans from Thailand were even here! The FT Island boys will be
performing in Thailand soon. The shirt says it all

K-popped! is saddened by how things turned out, especially for the fans who have been anticipating the concert. Below is a video of the fans calling for the concert to go on.

Three Bears song

Our Korean teacher taught us a children’s song during the final Korean class. I’m sure most of you are familiar with it, especially those who have watched the wildly popular drama series Full House. It stars Rain and Song Hye-kyo.

Song Hye-kyo performed the song Three Bears in the show and it became a "smash hit" all across the K-popped! world. Without further ado, I give you 세마리 (Gom se-ma-ri = Three Bears).

Song in Hangul:

세마리가
집에 있어
아빠
, 엄마 , 애기 ,
아빠 곰은 둥둥해
엄마
곰은 날씬해
애기
곰은 너무귀여워
으쓱
, 으쓱 잘한다

Romanised:

Gom se-mari-ga
Han ji-be isseo
Appa gom, omma gom, ae-gi gom
Appa go-meun tung tung hae
Omma go-meun nal-shin-hae
Ae-gi go-meun neo-moo ki-yeo-wo
Eu-sseuk, eu-sseuk, jal-han-da

Sing it and mean it (just like Song Hye-kyo):

FT Island press conference in Malaysia

After a successful concert tour in their native South Korea, FT Island has now descended upon Malaysia to give us a taste of their music in the FT Island 1st Live in Malaysia concert.

The concert will be held tomorrow (March 30) at the Sunway Lagoon Amphitheatre.

FT Island: 'Apa khabar Malaysia (How are you, Malaysia)? It's really
hot in here, huh?'

The boys debuted in June 2007, but have already scooped up numerous New Artist awards back home. They won at the 2007 Asia Song Festival, 2007 Mnet Music Festival and the 2007 Golden Disk Award.

MC & translator: They didn't introduce themselves formally.
On the right is MC of the event, 98.8FM radio DJ Simon (I think)
who asked all the questions and the lady is the English translator. It was a nightmare
transcribing the recording of the event as the translator did not E-NUN-CI-ATE
her words. She spoke really fast and slurred her speech, and the horrible sound
system didn't help either.

While the conditions surrounding the PC with FT Island in Malaysia on March 28 was a nightmare, the boys still mustered up enough chutzpah in the suffocating heat to answer all the questions thrown at them.

Here’s the lowdown from the Q&A session:

How do you like Malaysia?

Hong-gi: The weather here is nice, and the people are warm and friendly. It's also a very clean country and we are very happy to be here.

Won-bin: The weather is very nice, the people are very warm and yes, the country is very clean. If we get another chance, we would like to visit (Malaysia) again.

Min-hwan: It's a very interesting place and there are many things to see.

Jong-hun: It's my first visit here, but I've actually wanted to visit Malaysia before. We really appreciate being here and hope that the concert will be a success.

Friends: The boys are all close and chummy with each other.
From left: Won-bin (guitarist, vocalist), Hong-gi (lead vocalist),
Min-hwan (drummer), Jae-jin (bassist) and Jong-hun (guitarist, pianist).

What can we expect from the FT Island 1st Live in Malaysia concert on Sunday (tomorrow)?

Hong-gi: First of all, I hope that the concert will bring us closer to the Malaysian fans. We will be using a little English and Bahasa Malaysia during the show. Also, the repertoire will be slightly different from the Korean concerts…watch out for it.

What do you think about the support you get in Malaysia?

Hong-gi: We are very thankful to the media for supporting us and we are happy that many people recognise us. We really appreciate it.

Funny: Jae-jin speaks while Jong-hun (right) and Min-hwan laugh
at his remarks.

As the Hallyu spreads, you have become ambassadors of South Korea. What would you recommend foreigners who would like to visit your country one day?

Won-bin: I would say Apgujeong, the fashion and shopping district in Seoul.

Hong-gi: I'd recommend the tokpoki (떡볶이, which is rice cakes seasoned with gochujang/ Korean chili paste) in Shindang-dong. It's very famous and it's probably one of the best in Korea.

Min-hwan: I suggest one of the best holiday spots in Korea – Gangwon-do, which has fresh air.

Jae-jin: I would like to recommend Hongdae street where the younger generation usually hang out and enjoy themselves.

Jong-hun: I'd recommend Dongdae-mun.

Peace K-popped!: Jong-hun shows some lurve

Malaysia
is well-known for its wide variety of food. What have you tried?

Jong-hun: We've tried Nasi Lemak and Satay and we like it. I would like to try other Malaysian dishes, but not all of us can take spicy food.

What would your message to your Malaysian fans be?

Won-bin: Thank you to all of you who greeted us at the airport and we'll try our best to return the love and warm welcome shown to us at the concert.

Hong-gi: Yes, well said (laughs). Also, thank you to everyone who bought our album. We hope that you'll continue to love our music and we promise to always make better music.

Cool pose: Look at Jong-hun (right)! Ha ha he's so cute. He's known to
be rather awkward and cheesy -- and this pic proves it! The rest of
the boys -- from left: Won-bin, Hong-gi, Min-hwan and Jae-jin -- pretend not
to notice their bandmate's pose

Is there anything else you’d like to add?

Won-bin: Thank you for being here, we'll try our best to return in the future.

Hong-gi: We're glad to get the chance to talk to so many people and please, come to the concert and enjoy it.

Min-hwan: Thank you for loving the song Until You Come Back. There are many more songs in the album (The Refreshment), and I hope you'll love them as well.

Jae-jin: Thank you for the love throughout and we hope to see you again.

Jong-hun: We'll give our best at the concert.

Wow, wau: FT Island boys with the sponsors. The boys are each holding a
mini wau (traditional Malaysian kite)

The boys will be holding a meet-the-fans and autograph session at Cineleisure Damansara, The Curve today (March 29) from 1pm onwards.

The concert will be held at the Sunway Lagoon Amphitheatre tomorrow. Ticket details are at the "More on the concert" links below.

F.T. Island in Malaysia

Orchid and Liz got all hot and bothered in an enclosed room with the F.T. Island boys this morning.

Oh, get your mind out of the gutter, it wasn’t a pleasant experience at all. The extremely flawed organisation of F.T Island’s press conference in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia left many disappointed. (We really hope the concert this Sunday turns out well).

The press arrived at the appointed time of 10.30am on March 28 at Izzi Restaurant, Bukit Bintang for registration. We were notified that the F.T. Island boys would appear at 11.30am. Sweet.

The venue: Izzi Restaurant has a conference area
on the 3rd floor. The air-cons are faulty, though.

Unfortunately at 11am, the air-conditioners in the room – which by that time was filled with about 100 people – died on all of us.

No joke. The air gradually filled with CO2 and everyone started to suffocate. We were all “treated” to a sauna that we didn’t sign up for.

One hour later, at 12pm, still no F.T. Island. Worse still, the sauna became unbearable. It turned into an oven and everyone was gradually roasting their kidneys away in the stifling heat.

Some mainstream reporters and photogs were livid (time is of essence to these people as they’ll have to rush off for another assignment – work is work, no?) and jokingly suggested that the press should just boycott the event.

I got a little light-headed and had to step out onto an adjoining balcony for much-needed fresh air. Before dashing out of the room and gulping in the rather polluted air of Kuala Lumpur, I took a peek at Orchid, my trusty photog for the day, who had turned red in the face because of the heat.

FT Island in Malaysia!: The set up before the five boys appeared
before the press

At 12.20pm, after almost 2 hours since registering and 1.5 hours in the oven, the English translator appeared and announced that there was a technical glitch and we had to wait somemore. Hot (literally) damn!

With nothing to do but slowly die in the enclosure, everyone started fanning themselves while straining their necks to find out what the heck the organisers were up to. The organisers seemed all flustered and bothered…the heat (and much more, I bet) got to them too.

At 12.27pm sharp (yeah, I took note of the time – a TWO hour wait, I could’ve watched a movie with that amount of time), the Five Treasure Island boys appeared, looking all dashing and cute. Poor guys, they must have felt the heat too. Lead vocalist Hong-gi didn’t look very happy.

And after all that, guess what? The microphones didn’t work properly during the press conference and the sound system sucked…technical glitch? You don't say!

The sauna/ oven: This conference area turned into an oven after the
air-cons stopped working. Everyone was perspiring.

What was supposed to be an hour with the press turned into a 15-minute session because everyone – including the F.T. Island boys – was being mercilessly roasted in the oven.

Oh, and here’s the best part: the MC of the day – who by the way was pissed with the whole situation as well – didn’t open up the Q&A session to the floor.

Yup, he asked all the questions (some were repetitive) and the press at large was not given a chance to present our questions to F.T. Island!

What kind of a press conference was that? C.I. Entertainment seriously needs to have an internal post-mortem meeting after the dust has settled.

First-time organising flaws aside, K-popped! still has some juicy F.T. Island insights to share with all of you. Yay!

Look out for our exclusive take on the F.T. Island press conference in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia soon…very, very soon.

their love through K-popped! ;-)

Jung Da-yeon, from housewife to hot babe

She was a housewife. She lost weight through exercise, toned herself up real nice and became known for her expertise on physical training and exercise.

Wicked: Jung Da-yeon shows off her sexy figure

Jung Da-yeon
, the lady who turned herself into a sizzling hot chick, has now bagged a role in a K-drama because of her success in whipping herself into shape. The sexy lady is set to play a fitness trainer (what else?) in the TV series Aquarius, which will be aired mid-April (in
Korea).

The morning drama is targeted at housewives. Director Kim Soo-ryong personally approached Jung to be in his drama.

He explained: “Jung Da-yeon and her husband live in Ilsan close to where I live. I asked her, as a friend, to be in this drama because I thought her exercise expertise would be an incentive for health-conscious housewives to watch our program.”

He also wants Jung to “provide useful information about exercise and nutrition through the role of her character.”

Wow, look at those killer abs!

Rain composed Any Dream song

Really? Man, my one main gripe about Samsung Anycall’s Beijing Olympics theme song was that it wasn’t memorable…there’s no hook to the track. And today, I learned that the Energizer Bunny is the person who composed the song!

Nice try, Rain…but no dice.

Songwriter Rain: 'What? You don't like my song? Well, stuff it.'

On March 26, J-Tune Entertainment revealed that Rain (real name Jeong Ji-hoon) wrote, composed and produced Any Dream, which is about bulldozing through challenges to fulfill one’s dream.

Twist 'n Turn: 'And after that triple back flip, you lift your right
leg up like so.'

Apart from composing the track, Rain also choreographed the dance in the music video.

It is also revealed that Rain’s creative juices started flowing while he was in Los Angeles for post-production work on Speed Racer. The 26-year-old collaborated with Lee Hyun-do to compose Any Dream.

Why does Lee Hyun-do sound familiar? Well, he’s the Korean producer who will be working with Bi on a cover of Kung Fu Fighting, the disco smash hit for the OST of Dreamworks’ animated flick Kung Fu Panda.

Unstoppable Marriage wedding

Co-stars Seo Do-young and Park Chae-kyung donned the tux and gown (respectively) for a photoshoot for their popular daily sitcom Unstoppable Marriage. The pair plays a couple on the currently-airing KBS series.

Yeeeh: What's 'Yeeeh'? As in 'Yeeh, no way!'? :-P
A simple "Yes" or "Yeah" would be more appropriate

Couple: Seo Do-young (foreground) with Park Chae-kyung

The show basically revolves around Madam Shim and her four sons – Ki Baek, Lee Baek, Sam Baek and Sa Baek. Her eldest son, Ki Baek (Seo) has fallen for Miho (Park), who happens to be the daughter of her enemy Goo Gook. Hilarity ensues.

It takes two: Friends and lovers jumping for joy

Tussle: 'Why is your piggy cuter than mine?'

I have not watched a complete episode of the series as it's airing at 4 something in the afternoon (Astro channel 303)? Am I correct? Not a very good time for me. Who's a fan of the series?
