Seoul cinemas provide English subtitles for Korean flicks

Well, only TWO designated theatres will provide the service and they haven’t been selected yet. The service is set to kick off at the end of March 2009.

Foreigners in Seoul, rejoice! The Seoul Metropolitan government will designate two theatres to provide English subtitles for newly-released Korean flicks!

‘Hey, is that a rip in the bed cover?’
(Rest assure you won’t be getting subtitles like
the above in the designated cinemas :-))

This is excellent news! Orchid and I caught a movie in Seoul last November and we couldn’t watch Korean movies since they weren’t subtitled. We had to settle for a Hollywood movie instead.

Well, if this service proves to be a success, it will be provided in more cinemas in the city.

Kim Mi-mi of the Cultural Industry Division said: “According to the movie industry, some 15 local movies will be released this year. We plan to provide subtitles for at least 10 movies.”

Ah, wouldn’t it be fun to be able to catch a recently-released, English-subtitled Korean flick in Seoul?

Plan your visit to Seoul after March 2009, friends ;-).
