Malaysia's first Universal Music K-Pop Crazy Party

Some say it was a so-so event, some say it was really good. If you were at the sit-down party, tell us what you think about it! We’d like to know!

Eager and passionate Malaysian k-pop fans flocked to Wisma Bentley, Mutiara Damansara on February 11th for the first k-pop fan event organized by Universal Music Malaysia.

Despite zero appearances by their beloved k-pop idols, hundreds still turned up for the “Crazy Party” in high spirits. As the crowd started to fill up the auditorium with noticeably insufficient amount of chairs, it clearly did not dampen their spirits as they started fan-chanting to Girls Generations’ The Boys.

K-pop fans were treated to a live voice cross-over session with Jay Park!

Before the party commenced, fans of Super Junior, Girls Generation and B2st were urged to leave hand-written messages for their favourite idol groups. Each group had their own message boards which will then be sent to the respective groups. However, we actually spotted some messages being mixed up (e.g. messages to Super Junior on B2st’s board) so we wonder how that would work out.

Various artists merchandises were also sold at a slightly cheaper price. In particular, fans of B2st also got to pre-order merchandises from Beautiful Show.

At the event, fans were entertained with games  such as a pop quiz and another inspired by Running Man. There was also the game where you had to shake off memo pads stuck on you as well as lucky draws where artist merchandises (some signed!) and vouchers were given out!

The main event of the day though was the Universal K-pop Crazy Party Cover Dance Competition, which pitted Ruffneckz, Dawn’s Arch and Progression against one another for a battle for the cash prizes and Universal Music hampers.

In the end, the highly entertaining and bold show by Ruffneckz came in tops with their dance cover of “Troublemaker” and “Oppa, Oppa”.

Shake if off babeh!

Say hi to the dance competition judges – Alice from UMM, Sue Anne and Dennis Yin!

It pays to dance well…

The highlight of the event was none other than Jay Park. After the screening of Jay’s most recent music video for “Know Your Name”, k-pop fans were treated to the LIVE call-in with the amazing dancer to chat on his latest work.

Three fans were also selected to ask him a question each, in person. We felt that it would have been better if only it was a LIVE video chat but all in all, it was an interesting session nonetheless. In the brief session, Jay said that he was preparing for his comeback next week and will be focusing on his musical career for the time being so drama appearances may have to wait. He also mentioned that he has plans to visit Malaysia soon (this year) and remembers his Malaysian fans as being “enthusiastic”.

Ask away…Can I be your girlfriend, Jay Park?

Closing the party was none other than the lucky draw activity where Digi, Maxis and Celcom users who downloaded their favourite group’s caller ringtones stood a chance to win all-expense paid trips to Singapore to watch 2 different concerts, Super Show 4 as well as B2st’s first World Tour, Beautiful Show. Eight lucky winners were chosen amidst the crowd and got on stage for a prize-ceremony as the rest watched in envy.

Lucky lucky people! Don’t you hate them? 😉

All in all, it was a pretty good pioneer k-pop fan event for the fans and to introduce Universal Music’s K-Pop line up (which include artistes under Cube Entertainment (B2st, 4 Minute, G.Na), SM Entertainment (TVXQ, f(x), SHINee, Super Junior and Girls Generation/SNSD), 2AM and Kim Hyun Jun.

Hopefully there will be more to come and next time with guest appearances from some k-pop idol group, perhaps? We wouldn’t even mind if they are rookies!

K-popped! left our mark. We hope you read this Beast!
