Convenient Transportation Infrastructure
Deongseo Expressway between East Hongcheon and Sokcho has been opened since June 2017 and shorten traveling time very much. Depending on the traffic, it takes only 2 hours from Seoul to Sokcho. Sokcho is located an hour away from PyeongChang, the host city of 2018 Winter Olympic Games and half an hour away from Yangyang International Airport. Additionally, Sokcho has opened an International Cruise Terminal in October to be a cruise tour hub cty. In 2025, Express High-Speed Train (KTX) will be operating to transport passengers to Sokcho within 75 minutes from Seoul.
Unique and Newly-Themed Activities
In 2016, Sokcho City became the hot place for Pokémon Go enthusiast as many areas such as Sokcho beach, Sokcho fish market and expo park were the hot spots of Pokémon hunting. Mr. Lee even cosplay as a character, professor Samuel Oak from the Pokémon animation and held photo-taking session with tourists.
In October 2017, Pan Asia HASH, an international leisure sports event originating from Malaysia was held in Sokcho City. 5,000 tourists from 32 countries visited Sokcho and enjoyed the program as well as attractions in Sokcho.
Sokcho offers tourist maps and guide books in 3 languages (Bahasa Malaysia, Chinese and English) so that Malaysian tourists feel free and easy to understand about Sokcho and discover more hidden gems. Materials can be found in every tourist office, free of charge.
As a harbour city, Sokcho is the best place in East Coast to find fresh seafood dishes from restaurants and fish markets, especially Dongmyeonghang Saengseon Sutbulgui, which is a Muslim Friendly certified restaurant offering amazing set meals of assorted grilled fish (charcoal grilled) with pumpkin rice in clay pot and seafood soybean paste soup.
