Korean drama series, Hold Me Tight tells a story about a married couple revisiting their jaded relationship after experiencing a life and death situation. Thanks to Oh!K, we had a chance to interview the the main casts; Han Hye Jin and Yoon Sang Hyun!

Han Hye Jin is a well-known actress who made her breakthrough in 2005 when she starred in Be Strong, Geum-soon! as a young widow working as an outgoing hairdresser. Other notable roles include Jumong, Jejungwon, and 26 years. She has also hosted the talk show Healing Camp, Aren’t You Happy between 2011 and 2013.

Meanwhile, Yoon Sang Hyun is an actor and singer, making his acting debut In the 2005 television series Marrying a Millionaire. His breakout role was in the 2009 drama Queen of Housewives, and he has continued to star in many popular films and television dramas, including Secret Garden, I Hear Your Voice, Gap Dong, Ms Temper & Nam Jung Gi, Shopping King Louie, and Perfect Wife.

Without much further ado, check out the interview below!

To Han Hye Jin : What drew you to this drama? If the scenarios in this drama were to happen to you in real life, what would be the last thing you would like to do?

Han Hye Jin: After going through the script of the first four episodes, I felt that it was deep yet simple and it reminded me of Japanese dramas. I really felt that as an actress, I had to do this. I knew it was going to be difficult, but I wanted to challenge myself, and that was what motivated me to take on the role.

As a mother myself, I don’t think I would be able to spend my last moments alone, focusing on just myself. I think if the drama were to happen to me in real life I would be spending my last three months preparing for my daughter’s future.

Q : Some people might take what happened in the series as adultery or an inappropriate relationship. What are your thoughts on that and how would you feel if someone from your partner’s past came back into their life?

Yoon Sang Hyun: If someone from your partner’s past shows up in their life and they go through emotional turmoil, there’s nothing you can do. However, you should stay firm, stand by your partner and not be emotionally unstable.

Han Hye Jin: Since we are only human, I think it’s understandable if we become emotionally unstable and have some feelings when someone from our past came back into our life. However, we must have a sense of responsibility to not cross the fine line into adultery.

To Han Hye Jin : How does it feel to be acting once again? Did you notice anything different?

Han Hye Jin: The crew is too young. Our director is young, and so are the people on set. It’s a bit embarrassing that staff call me ‘noona’. (Laughter)

I was really nervous at first as it felt unfamiliar. However, as we continued filming, I have begun to adapt and the young energy is starting to inspire me. I also see a lot of new equipment and cameras on set, so I believe that our drama is going to be visually outstanding.

To Han Hye Jin : Did your husband say anything to you upon your return to the screen?

Han Hye Jin: Since my pregnancy, I’ve spent a lot of my time overseas raising my daughter, so it’s been difficult to leave that behind. However, my husband has been very supportive and said, “You must do it. You were an actress before you were a mother, so don’t settle for just the present. You must go back out and act.”

The timing for the series is also perfect as the World Cup will take place after this drama is over [she is married to South Korean football player Ki Sung-yueng]. So, here I am.

To Yoon Sang Hyun : You’ve previously done a lot of characters that are relatively light. How does it feel to be in a more serious drama for the first time in long time?

Yoon Sang Hyun: Yes, my previous roles have been very light-hearted. I feel that I have been able to adapt myself to the script for ‘Hold Me Tight’. I actually prefer to play a character with both a light-hearted and a dark side. However, in ‘Hold Me Tight’, I cannot draw from my past experience alone, and I have to really draw from my inner personality. I practiced a lot before filming.

As it is my first serious drama in a long time, working with Han Hye-jin and a young director was challenging at first. However, as we continue to film I am really able to focus on playing my role on set. It is also my first serious drama after getting married so I am more emotionally stable and it feels great to be able to be a part of this drama.

To Han Hye Jin : The concept of a brain tumour is quite popular in Korean dramas, along with cancer. There have been a lot of actors and actresses who have played the role of a terminally ill character. How did you prepare to act as a terminally ill patient?

Han Hye Jin: The focus of this drama is actually around love and not brain tumours. I really needed to do my research in preparation for this role, so I watched a lot of documentaries on the illness. Although we have started filming, I am still watching these documentaries and practicing to ensure that I understand and play my role well.

Hereditary brain tumour is a very rare disease so it is never easy. I really needed to work hard to ensure that the viewers accept and believe that both the mother and the daughter are suffering from the same illness.

And that’s the end of our interview. Don’t forget to tune in to Hold Me Tight which airs on Oh!K (Astro Ch 394), within 24 hours of the Korean telecast, every Thursday & Friday at 7.50 pm.

<Mother> is based on the popular award-winning Japanese TV drama of the same title, and premiered on tvN Asia in Singapore and Malaysia on January 25. <Mother> tells the story of an elementary school teacher Soo-jin (Lee Bo-young) and her student, Hye-na (Heo Yool).

Thanks to tvN Asia, we had a quick Q&A session with the main actress, Lee Bo Young. She is a great actress and best known for her roles in <My Daughter Seo Young>, <I Can Hear Your Voice> and <Whisper>.

K-POPPED!: Please explain about your role in <Mother>.

Lee Bo Young: Soojin was once living in solitude childhood and are used to isolation, but became more aware of the surroundings and people around her as she grew up. With a lonely childhood, she sympathizes children who are going through the similar childhood as herself; detached from their parents and always on her own. In the drama, she tries to “kidnap” Hye-Na in a way to save her from her abusive parents.

K-POPPED!: How did you feel when you were first offered the role? What made you accept the role?

Lee Bo Young: When the tvN team started the production of <Mother>, I approached them and asked if I could be casted in the drama. A lot of child abuse-related news has appeared on media, especially after I gave birth to my daughter, and those created a great impact on me as a “mother”. Thus, I thought that it would be a good opportunity to draw the emotional empathy for the issue to the public.

K-POPPED!: What is the biggest challenges in shooting this drama?

Lee Bo Young: There are not many difficulties in shooting <Mother>. The overall atmosphere of the shooting site is very nice and in terms of acting and creating the emotions of the character went very smoothly for me.

K-POPPED!: What were the most memorable lines in this drama?

Lee Bo Young: I cannot forget the line where Soojin, my character, said, “Listen Hye-Na. I will take you to somewhere a thousand miles away from here and no one will know. Would you follow me?” This simple line actually triggered the whole storyline of <Mother>, and is extremely memorable to me.

K-POPPED!: The main reason why people should watch this drama is…

Lee Bo Young: To be honest, it is not a drama that can be easily digested. However, I do hope that a lot of parents would realize the social issue of child abuse when watching <Mother> and take the responsibility of protecting their child just like any parents should be as the guardian of their child.

That’s the end of our quick chat with Lee Bo Young.^^

Catch <Mother> every Thursday and Friday on TV or on-demand in Malaysia on Astro Ch. 395, Astro GO, unifi tv (previously HyppTV) Ch. 601 or unifi playtv, with subtitles in English, Chinese and Bahasa Malaysia.

Evergreen is a 16-episode fantasy romance comedy starring CNBLUE’s Lee Jong-hyun (Orange Marmalade) and Kim So-eun (Our Gab-Soon). The drama is about the story of two people who fall in love with each other due to a “cupid” possessing magical pollen.

Oh Soo (Lee Jong-hyun) is a smart and handsome man in his 20’s. He works as a promising engineer in the IT field, a cafe owner and a barista. He plays cupid for men and women by using a mysterious pollen. Due to the pollen, he falls in love with Seo Yoo-ri (Kim So-eun). She is also in her 20’s and works as a police officer. She has a bright personality and supports her family by herself.

After breaking up with her boyfriend, Yoo-ri drinks a lot and faints on the street around Oh Soo’s café. Oh Soo finds her unpleasant and was just about to ignore her. But he remembers the news that there is a serial killer in their town. He couldn’t help but bring her to his café. While he is out of the café, she wakes up, drinks coffee mixed with the pollen and disappear.

Evergreen tells a realistic love story of young people, while also showing a twist in the sensitive fantasy romance genre. The main leads are a cursed man and a woman who can’t break the curse, which is certainly different from conventional plot pairings, where the hero or heroine usually holds the key to “curing” or somehow changing their counterpart in the course of the show.

The Korea Creative Content Agency is supporting the production of the series in recognition of its emotional but charming story and solid composition.

Evergreen will premiere on K-PLUS starting 6 March 2018, Tuesday at 8.00pm SGT, within 24 hours of Korea. New episodes will air weekly on Tuesday and Wednesday at 8.00pm SGT. English, Mandarin, Bahasa Malaysia and Bahasa Indonesia subtitles are available.

K-PLUS is available on: USEETV IndiHome, Tribe Indonesia, DENSTV, Astro GO, Tribe Philippines.
