South Korea is one of the most interesting, highly developed, and cultural countries in the world. The lifestyle of the Koreans is distinctly different from all other nations of the world. Unfortunately, we know very little about this wonderful country. So, there’s some catching up to do! Here are 5 of the most amazing dating traditions in South Korea.

Dating is organized by a special person

The Koreans study hard and believe that education is the main thing. In Korea, there are many schools with separate education for boys and girls, so often, young people have little experience in dealing with the opposite sex. If a single girl looking for husband wants to go out on a date, she asks a friend to help in its organization. And any Korean wouldn’t mind playing the role of matchmaker for their friends.

Students prefer dating 3:3 or 5:5. In universities, there are special lounges where the organizers of such meetings invite people who want to meet someone and find love.

For example, it could be three guys and three girls. Usually, all the participants gather at the bar, play alcohol games, and exchange phone numbers.

There are a lot of high days for lovers

People in South Korea celebrate Saint Valentine’s Day too. But having adopted this western tradition, the Koreans made their own contribution to it: on this day, only girls give their boyfriends chocolate as a sign of love.

And guys make gifts for their girlfriends on March 14. This holiday is called White Day. On this day, it’s customary to give loved ones a wide variety of gifts and sweets among which Chupa Chups are very popular. On March 14, men must observe the “rule of three:” to give a gift that is three times more expensive than the one that his girlfriend gave him.

Yellow Day is celebrated on May 14. All the couples dress in yellow and give each other flowers. On June 14, they celebrate the Day of Kisses: it’s considered ideal to make a declaration of love or start new relationships. On Silver Day (July 14), it’s customary to give each other silver rings as a symbol of long relationships and marriage prospects. December 14 – is the Hug Day!

The Koreans count the days spent together

The Korean girls carefully calculate how many days have passed since the official start of the relationship. It’s customary to celebrate every 100 days from the first meeting and also the usual anniversaries. On this day, they give each other flowers and gifts, go to restaurants, or make a short trip somewhere.

Each Korean has a special smartphone app for counting the days of relationships. These applications can be used by both partners: there they correspond, store joint photos, and mark memorable events in the calendar.

Lovers wear the same clothes

Lovers often wear the same or similar clothes and buy the same things. In general, they try to show that they are a couple in every possible way. Therefore, in stores, there is a huge variety of things for two: from T-shirts to phone covers. And of course, everyone wears the main symbol of Korean lovers – couple rings, which are usually given for 100 days of official relations.

Many couples break up due to long military service

Men in Korea serve 21 months in the ground troops and 24 months in the navy. It’s a long term, and many couples break up because of the durable separation. If a girl is waiting for her boyfriend from the army, they say that she “wears rubber shoes.” Such shoes are ugly and uncomfortable, and this is the symbol of long waiting.

The Koreans are very fond of doramas, Asian television series, and they don’t mind bringing drama into their romantic life: their relationship is just a storm of passions. When they break up and start dating somebody else, they call it a transplanting. And when they want to say that unsuccessful relationships are surely followed by happy ones, they say: “After a bad car, there is a Mercedes-Benz.”

There are many love motels

Love motels are incredibly popular in South Korea. This is due to the fact that public manifestations of passion are considered inappropriate. These tiny motel rooms serve as a secluded place for couples in love. You can find such mini love motels in any part of the city. Also, it’s possible to rent a room for an hour or two.

The new song, titled “Kiss and Make Up”, will be the first international collaboration for the girl group, who made history earlier this year when their Square Up album and single “Ddu-Du Ddu-Du” became the highest-charting ones from a Korean female act ever on the Billboard charts.

After announcing the news on Twitter, Dua Lipa later thanked fans for their outpouring of support and expressed sadness about the final version of Dua Lipa, but there will be much more to look forward to from the pop-megastar.

Presented by CJ ENM, “2018 MAMA (Mnet Asian Music Awards)” will be styled as “MAMA WEEK” to bring a magnificent music event to all music fans. CJ ENM has revealed the teaser page (www.2018mama.com) of the official website of “2018 MAMA” kicking off the stunning ceremony. It includes this year’s theme, official logo, official titles for each region, and etc.

With celebration of the 10th annual MAMA, the theme “ICARUS” has been established for 2018 MAMA. The story of “ICARUS” represented “the Invincible Challenge”, “the Boundless Passion/Enthusiasm” and “the Everlasting Dream” which summarized as the theme of 2018 MAMA. MAMA has always enriched its annual stage design by focusing on the combination of artists’ challenges, fans’ passions and the dream of music uniting all in one. This year’s MAMA will conceivably be presented with an innovative stage design as the Asia’s biggest music awards ceremony.

The creation of 2018 MAMA’s logo design employed the aggressive blending of the “wings”, “heart” and “universe” symbols to activate this year’s thematic keywords of “challenge”, “passion” and “dream”. Correspondingly, all other related details of this year’s MAMA can be found on the official teaser page (www.2018mama.com).

Kicking off its first ceremony in Korea, “2018 MAMA Premiere in Korea” will bring about the long-waited newly-debuted artists not only from Korea but Asia to the audience. The thematic and extravagant international music ceremonies “2018 MAMA Fans’ Choice in Japan” & “2018 MAMA in Hong Kong” will continue in Japan and Hong Kong respectively. The focus of the stage and ceremony in ‘2018 MAMA Fans’ Choice in Japan’ is the selection of artists from fans all over the world. Likewise, everyone can enjoy the spectacular stage full of stunning artists and an ultimate awards ceremony in “2018 MAMA in Hong Kong”.

Online voting for 2018 MAMA will officially start from 18:00 on Thursday, 1st November 2018 (KST) until 12 midnight on Sunday, 9th December 2018 (KST).

Organized and presented by CJ ENM, Asia’s biggest music awards MAMA has been started off in 1999 as “Mnet Music Video Awards” for more than 10 years supported by the Korean music industry. It has been developed and transformed to MAMA in 2009 and this year has come to its 10th awards ceremony. Being held in Macau in 2010 was a benchmark of MAMA’s first overseas achievement, since then it has been held in Singapore and Hong Kong. It was an astonishing attainment for the first ever MAMA to be held in three regions last year in Vietnam, Japan and Hong Kong. Not only has MAMA become a significant year-end music awards ceremony, it has developed into an extravagant international music event. It has also simultaneously created an international communication/crossover network for music exchange which made MAMA gained recognition in Asia’s music industry and its communication network.

SI-NO-SI-JAK SHOWTIME!

iKON was back in Malaysia for their 2018 CONTINUE Tour in Kuala Lumpur last Saturday, Oct 13. The 7 members of iKON; B.I, Bobby, Jay, Ju-ne, Yunhyeong, DK and Chanwoo brought down Stadium Malawati with their energetic and stellar performances.

“Long time no see Malaysia! Let’s have great fun tonight!” greeted iKON.

Marking their second time in Malaysia, iKON kicked off the show at 6PM with BLING BLING and SINOSIJAK which we think were perfect as the opening songs. Looking good in glittery red suits, iKON was welcomed passionately by 7,000 iKONICs (iKON’s fanclub name), who filled the stadium with a red ocean with their lightsticks.

iKON proved themselves as talented idols, as they performed various styles of music and perfectly delivered it with character. From the laidback song, My Type to the jazzy beach vibe, Cocktail to the cute and cheeky, Bestfriend to the sweet serenading ballad, Just For You to the swag upbeat dance Rhythm Ta and to the more darker emotional song, Killing Me, they nailed it all!

Malaysian fans were so lucky last Saturday to watch iKON performing for the first time outside Korea their latest songs, Don’t Let Me Know, Adore You and the current chart-topper, Goodbye Road.

And not forgetting the song that was phenomenal in South Korea early this year, Love Scenario! iKON treated fans not only once but twice including the encore.

We had so much fun at the iKoncert and we hope to see their 3rd tour in Malaysia in the future.

Special thanks to the organizer, Macpiepro for the invitation.
