Fancy drinking from a Rain mug? Check outthe other choices you have in the background…mugs of your favourite Korean star One evening, when we were walking along the streets of Myeongdong in Seoul, we came across a shop selling Korean celebrities’ merchandise. From CDs to calendars to mugs, the store had all sorts of paraphernalia of your favourite stars! I remember seeing lots of Bae Yong-joon, Hyun Bin, Super Junior, Won Bin, DBSK…etc. But be careful, everything in this shop is shockingly overpriced! I can’t believe i walked away with a set of Rain post-it pads for RM20 though! In retrospect, i should have brought a Rain mug back instead. Ah then i could drink from a Bi mug everyday! Lotte Mart to open outlet in 1 Utama
Lotte Mart started out as a community mini market in Ampang’s Koreatown. Today, it’s set to make its presence known by opening an outlet at the 1 Utama shopping mall in Petaling Jaya. Sweet! Mini market: Lotte Mart in Koreatown, Ampang. Lotte Mart was established back in 2002. It was operated by a family that did it as a hobby as well as a social obligation to the Korean community. From little acorns do big oaks grow, no? Business has flourished since then, thanks to the growing Korean expatriate community in the city. Also, K-popped! Malaysians like us (yeah, you reading this blog), has contributed to Lotte Mart’s expansion plans. Lotte Mart 1 Utama will open in the trendy and extremely busy shopping complex soon (it’s currently under construction). It will be on the Lower Ground Floor (New Wing), next to the Cold Storage supermarket. 2008 Style Icon Awards
Most stylish on the orange carpet goes too…Seo In Young! Korea’s first Style Icon Awards was held on the 30th October at 10pm, Club Answer in Gangnam, Seoul. The award ceremony selected 10 top trend setters in 2008 from cultural, artistic and social spectrum of life. To make the event different from the rest, the guest arrived on an orange carpet, instead of the usual Red Carpet. Many played it safe and arrived in boring black outfits. Check out who else was there! Rain (Jung Ji Hoon) arrived stylishly on the orange carpet dressed in an expensive black suit. He wore a round necked t-shirt and scarf to create a laid back look. Although I don’t think the cute bowl cut hairstyle goes with the outfit. Korean pop star Rain introduces fashion brand SIX TO FIVE
Rain (real name Jung Ji-hoon) used to be called a “quadruple threat”. He’s a singer, actor, dancer AND model. Now, you can add entrepreneur to that list. After finishing his 5-year contract under JYP Entertainment and leaving mentor Park Jin Young (JYP), Rain set up his own entertainment company, J Tune Entertainment. Okay, we all know that story. Now, J Tune Entertainment is also branching out and has a subsidiary company called J Tune Creative (www.jtcreative.co.kr). The 26 year old “World Star”, is delving into one of his personal passions – the fashion industry. Rain simultaneously makes his 5th album (Rainism) comeback (via the special MBC program Me.Rain.Dance) and showcases the 2009 Fall/Winter collection for his fashion brand “Six to Five”. Actually Rain himself modeled the clothes. He wore this “Six to Five” (식스 투 파이브) ensemble during his tango performance with Kim Su-nah. Recognize it? Rain receives 2008 Korea Image Award

Liz is traumatized so i am writing this entry.Rain received the 2008 Korea Image Stepping Stone Award for promoting a positive image of Korea though popular music. Bi…congratulations, you sure deserve the award Since the Energizer Bunny was the one responsible for getting me hooked on all things Korean, i would be the first to say that Bi certainly deserves the award. Since his debut in 2002, Rain worked diligently and has now gained “world star” status. He has shown that hard work and determination pays off. He lives an exemplary life and is a good role model to teenagers and young fans. He has a clean cut lifestyle and has not been associated with career damaging scandals. These positive values that Rain possesses (that are not so easy to come by these days) have been recognized by the organizers.The Corea Image Communication Institute (CICI Korea 2008) choose Rain (real name Jung Ji-hoon) as this year’s recipient. Led by president Choi Jung-wha, the institute is established to promote Korea globally. Why is Liz traumatized? She just saw Bi’s photos at the Korea Image awards. Xylitol toothbrush & Jumping Clay, anyone?
We’re so into K-pop culture that I think we’ve got K-popped! stamped across our foreheads! While at the wet market this morning, a lady manning one of those make-shift stalls called out to us and went: Lady: Would you like to buy a toothbrush, it’s from Korea? Orchid & Liz stopped mid-step and walked up to the stall to check out her wares. Apart from toothbrush, she was also selling Jumping Clay. The Xylitol toothbrushes we bought. Gingerbread boy not included;that one was a Christmas present. He’s so cute, I just wanted to puthim in. Tee hee…. Lady: I’ve been using the toothbrush myself and I find it really good. It has two kinds of bristles – one short and one longer – giving your teeth a proper cleaning as it reaches into the hard-to-reach places. Since it was about time I changed my toothbrush (칫솔), we decided to get some from the lady. You get three toothbrushes for RM20. We also learnt that the lady named Andurea backpacked in Korea back in 1996 and missed speaking Korean and eating kimchi! Andurea: I love kimchi and used to be able to speak a little Korean, but now I don’t anymore.
