Lotte World

Published on January 9, 2009 by in Seoul

Sure, we were in Seoul last year (November 2008), but we’re not done blogging about it yet! During our trip, the Trio reserved a full day for fun at Lotte World to get in touch with our inner child. Gee, I haven’t been to an amusement park in over a decade. The last time the 3 of us went to one together was Pesta Port Dickson back when some of you reading this blog were still crawling around in your diapers and drooling all over the place. If you know Pesta PD way back then, you’d remember what crap it was. Adventure Land in Lotte World. Orchid planning which rides we should go on first. Lotte World is divided into two sections – Adventure Land (an indoor park) and Magic Island (an outdoor park). Start your fun in Adventure Land and make your way to Magic Island then come back to Adventure Land by 9pm to catch the laser light show before leaving Lotte World. Traditional dances and other performances at the open theater in Adventure Land. Liz in Rooster on the carousel.Hmm, looks like we’re the only unaccompanied minors on this ride. ;p One thing I noticed in Seoul

Sunday service at Yoido Full Gospel Church

Published on December 25, 2008 by in Seoul

Merry Christmas everyone! How are you celebrating Christmas this year? Since you’re here at K-popped!, allow me to reminisce about the time the Trio went to the Yoido Full Gospel Church on Nov 9 . It was a lazy Sunday morning when we dragged ourselves out of bed to make our way to Yoido. Apart from visiting Yoido Full Gospel Church, we had other plans such as checking out the 63 Building and later, heading down to the Noryangjin Fisheries Wholesale Market . A friend suggested that we visit one of the many broadcasting stations, such as KBS, SBS and MBC which were all located in the area. But on that day, we decided against waiting in line for a show as the sights and sounds of Yoido beckoned. Get me to the church on time!: OK, OK we were alittle late getting there. We started our journey at Jongnosam(3) -ga, as we were staying at the Doulos Hotel. Happily, we hopped onto a near-empty subway. Sharing the subway car with us were two African men, who were still on the subway when we got off at the Yoinaru station. The K-popped! Trio then walked the rest of the way

Tosokchon and their famous Samgyetang

If you have to try Samgyetang, then you have to try it at Tosokchon. Samgyetang (삼계탕): Chicken ginseng soup. A whole spring chickenstuffed with glutinous rice, dates and gingko nuts boiled in a herbal ginseng broth. Every restaurant has a their own unique Samgyetang recipe. Tosokchon is liked by so many because their Samgyetang broth is rich, flavourful and simmered to perfection. While in Seoul, the K-popped! Trio met up with Seoul Sista twice. On our second meeting, Seoul Sista took Liz and I to Samcheong-dong for some comfort food. During the first meeting, the Trio were whisked to a Hanok style restaurant for some darn good Samgyetang. We met Seoul Sista in Myeongdong one evening. Almost immediately she asked us what foods we’d like to try. Upon hearing “Samgyetang”, Seoul Sista clapped her hands and went, “AH! I know just the place!” I’m so glad I have friends who love food just as much as I do. ^_^ Arrival: Seoul Sista leads the Trio into Tosokchon. Tosokchon’s samgyetang is extremely popular among the locals and visitors alike. The restaurant is also a favourite of the previous South Korean president, President Roh Moo-hyun. At night, the exterior of Tosokchon is

Shoot ‘em: Orchid and Rooster’s cameras at “rest”. Orchid uses the Nikon D40 while Rooster shoots with her Canon 450d! The pic you see is of the cameras my fave gals use . I managed to get a pic (with my pathetic Canon IXUS-i) of the “always busy” cameras during a coffee break at A Twosome Place in Apgujeong on Nov 6. Note: This is NOT a product placement post . A sexy game of Billiards

Published on December 2, 2008 by in Seoul

Or is it Pool? *shrug* Well, before Orchid insisted on flipping channels to watch Bi while we were lazing in our hotel room in Seoul, I was watching this: In heated competition. Is this competition for real? The feminist in me tells me I should be offended.Instead, I gawk and take pictures. So… what do the men wear? Update 7:00pm: I just had to do a search. It’s called Racing Models Billiards Championship. Head over to mncast.com if watching sexy ladies play lousy pool is your idea fun. Here’s a clip: Latest version of flash required to view clip. One night in Samcheong-dong

Published on November 28, 2008 by in Seoul

On our 7th night in Seoul, a friend from my school days (whom I shall call Seoul Sista for this post) took Liz and I to Samcheong-dong. Orchid stayed back at the hotel to pamper her tired feet whilst watching Prince Charming (Hyun Bin) on tv. Boy, did she miss out on some good eating. ;p At 7 o’clock, Liz and I met our Seoul Sista at the Jongno police station by Exit 6 of the Anguk metro stop. We then took a leisurely 15 minute walk to Samcheong-dong. Swing by Samcheong-dong if you’re by Gyeongbokgung Palace. Samcheong-dong is an old neighbourhood in the Jongno-gu district which lies east of Gyeongbokgung Palace. Chic boutiques, charming cafes, swanky restaurants and hip art galleries are nestled among the trees along this hilly street. Couples flock to Samcheong-dong every weekend to spend a romantic day together. Cozy cafes on Samcheong-dong street. Between Insadong and Samcheong-dong, I have to say Samcheong-dong is my favourite. The architecture is inspiring and I loved peeking into its picturesque alleyways. I wish that I had come here during the day so that I could have checked out the Toykino Museum, amongst other things. Architecture for each building lining

Locks of love at N Seoul Tower

Published on November 26, 2008 by in Seoul

Just how romantic are the Koreans? On the terrace fences surrounding N Seoul Tower on Mount Namsan you’ll find a myriad of locks professing the everlasting love of lovestruck couples. Locks of all kinds professing everlasting love. Couples leave their locks and throw away the key ensuringthat their love will remain forever. *phft*… bwah haha… right. Oh okaaay, I think the locks are sweet too. Orchid studying the locks with her camera. Now that’s pretty creative. I say, where do they get these locks? I can never find the cute ones. For all you playas over there in Seoul, I bet you spend a fortune on locks, huh? More stories of K-popped! Trio in Seoul: Noryangjin Fish Market Having a cuppa at the Coffee Prince Cafe K-popped! Noryangjin Fish Market

Published on November 25, 2008 by in Seoul

Don’t pay KRW20,000 for Sea World at 63 Building in Yoido. Go to the Noryangjin Wholesale Fish Market for the real experience. You’ll see stuff that Sea World doesn’t even have. The Noryangjin Fish Market is Seoul’s main hub for seafood. Restaurant buyers and seafood savvy folk flock here to get the best deals on all sorts of fish everyday. The market is open 24 hours and if you’re really fish crazy, you can come see the best catch of the day get auctioned off daily from 1am – 6am. For a city girl like myself who does most of her grocery shopping at the supermarket, this fish market was a real freak show. I’ll let these pictures do the talking. Enjoy! Something smells fishy. Entering the market. If you’ve been to wet markets in Asia, you’d agree that this fish market is rather clean. Octopus. Fishing for crabs. Hairy looking crabs that make my tongue itch when I look at it. Spindly crabs… my knowledge of crab species is non-existent so,please bear with my erroneous descriptions. What the heck is that? Stingray. Have you ever seen the face of a stingray? Shop keeper tending to her bounty of marine delights.

Having a cuppa at the Coffee Prince Cafe

Published on November 23, 2008 by in Dramas, Seoul

The Coffee Prince cafe established in 2007.Yes we were there! It was totally unplanned and we did not do research on the Internet before visiting the Coffee Prince cafe. But we had seen all of Namsan Park earlier that day, and on the spur of the moment, decided to visit The 1st Shop of Coffee Prince. Just in case you don’t know, Coffee Prince was a hit Korean drama in 2007 and they filmed it at the cafe. People say the cafe is located at Hongdae in Seoul, where three major Korean universities are located. All i knew was that you get off at the Hongik University subway stop. Okay, since it is such a famous drama, i am sure people around Hongdae would know where it is. When we came out from the Hongik University subway exit, we were pleasantly surprised by how European-like the area was. The streets are narrow, lined with trees and there were many eateries and small shops along the streets. It reminded me a lot of Wudaokou in Beijing. You will also see many students around the vicinity. Cosy university town – this is what you see when you exit from the subway station.
