tvN’s latest 24-hour express drama – What’s Wrong With Secretary Kim (金秘书为何那样?) has captured audience’s attention with its star-studded cast led by Park Seo-joon (朴叙俊) and Park Min-young (朴敏英). The third episode of What’s Wrong With Secretary Kim recorded an average viewership of 0.567% among target audience (A20-49); ranked no. 1 among all 114 pay TV channels on StarHub TV and/or Singtel TV during the same timeslot (source: Gfk; Evogenius Reporting). The overwhelming viewership rating surpasses tvN Asia’s drama history! The webtoon-turn-drama series illustrates a comical office romance between the narcissistic boss Lee Young-joon (Park Seo-joon) and his secretary of 9 years Kim Mi-so (Park Min-young).

On the last day of Ramadan (14 June), tvN pushed a full series marathon of Wanna One GO: X-Con from 10:45 to 19:00. KCON USA, the world’s largest Korean culture convention and music festival presented by Toyota, announced today that K-pop artists Crush, Dynamic Duo, and MOMOLAND will perform at KCON 2018 L.A. which is taking place August 10-12 at the Staples Center & LA Convention Center. This year, KCON Los Angeles will expand the K-Beauty, food, and gaming components of the convention, while offering even more access to K-pop artists as it returns for its seventh year.

Crush debuted in 2012 with the release of single “Red Dress.” He released a single titled “Sometimes” in April 2014 and his first album, Crush On You, in June 2014. This R&B artist hailing from Amoeba Culture has boosted his experience with producing gigs for Korean rappers LOCO, Gray, Zico. In 2014, he collaborated with Zion.T to release the single “Just” which became another hit. As a solo artist, Crush had an immensely successful 2014 with the sensual “Hug Me” and melancholic “Sofa” followed by the release of two EPs, Interlude and Wonderlust, in 2016. In 2018, Crush released a new single titled “Bittersweet.”

 

Dynamic Duo is a Korean hip-hop duo composed of Choiza and Gaeko. The duo officially debuted as Dynamic Duo in 2004 with their runaway hit album Taxi Driver. In 2006, they founded what is now one of the hottest labels in Korean hip-hop, Amoeba Culture. Their second full-length album Double Dynamite earned them “Best Hip Hop Album of the Year” at the 2007 Korean Music Awards. Dynamic Duo has released a total of 8 studio-length albums with numerous charted hits. They took home “Best Rap/Hip Hop” award at the 2017 Melon Music Awards and “Best Collaboration” at the 2017 Mnet Asian Music Awards with “Nosedive” featuring EXO’s Chen. On February 7, 2018, they released their latest single “Bongjeseon.”

 

MOMOLAND is a girl group formed by MLD Entertainment through Mnet’s survival program Finding Momoland in 2016. The winning members who became the 7 members of Momoland were Hyebin, Yeonwoo, Jane, Nayun, JooE, Ahin, and Nancy and debuted with EP Welcome to Momoland on November 10, 2016. On April 10, 2017, they released first DS Wonderful Love and when the album released, MOMOLAND added two new members Daisy and Taeha, completing the current 9-member line-up. On August 22, 2017, they released their second EP Freeze! with title track “Freeze.” The group saw a breakthrough after making a comeback with their third EP, Great!, which included title track “Bboom Bboom” on January 3, 2018. The week after, they performed the song and immediately took the win on Mnet’s M COUNTDOWN. The single jumped to No. 4 on Billboard’s World Digital Song Sales, becoming the third-best-selling K-pop song in America in last week of January. On May 23, 2018, the group announced to be making their comeback on June 26, 2018.

 

The New York metro area edition of KCON 2018 is taking place at the Prudential Center in Newark, NJ on June 23 and 24.

Next, chef Paik hopped onto a flight to Hong Kong, which is renowned for its multinational cuisines. But the home cook master went straight to genuinely local eateries – Cha Chaan Teng, casual dining place with affordable menus favoured by the locals; Dai Pai Dong, open-air food stalls; and traditional Dim Sum Parlour. Chef Paik joyfully roamed through corners of Hong Kong straying from cliché tourist spots and easily doubled himself as a local foodie.

Twitter Korea has released a commemorative limited-edition emoji for the globally popular K-pop boy group, GOT7 in support of their 2018 Eyes On You world tour.


GOT7’s world tour kicked off on May 4th in Seoul and will travel to17 different cities including Bangkok, Paris, Los Angeles, New York, Singapore and Jakarta. The special emoji automatically activates when users Tweet with the hashtags #GOT7, #갓세븐, #EyesOnYou, #GOT7WORLDTOUR and will be up and running until GOT7 wraps up their tour on August 25th, midnight (KST). Besides congratulating GOT7 on their world tour, the emoji also spotlights K-pop in the international music scene and injects some fun as fans all over the world Tweet their love and support for the K-pop group.

On GOT7’s official Twitter account (@GOT7Official), the members Tweeted snapshots from behind the scenes during their concert in Seoul with their official world tour hashtag #GOT7WORLDTOUR. These snaps were made into a video Tweet series and fans went frenzy

Overwatch League team Seoul Dynasty have partnered with renowned Korean-American musicians pH-1 and DaviDior to produce an exclusive walk-on song for the team. Showcasing the convergence of gaming, music, and entertainment culture, this initiative from the Seoul Dynasty meshes esports with the worldwide Hallyu phenomenon.

“pH-1 and DaviDior are both incredible musicians, and when we learned that they were fans of our Seoul Dynasty team, we knew we had to work together to make something great happen,” said Arnold Hur, Chief Growth Officer of the Seoul Dynasty. “We took a lot of feedback from our team about what kind of music they liked and worked closely with both pH-1 and DaviDior to put together something that our fans around the world could get excited about.”

For the new walk-on track, titled “82” after the country calling code of Korea, rapper pH-1 contributed his unique rhythmic style of Korean music fused with English words and flow.

“As a Korean-American living in Seoul, there was no question about hopping on this project to support the Seoul Dynasty,” pH-1 said. “I wanted to represent my city and contribute what I can to the team with my music. I wanted a track with tremendous energy because I know how much influence music can have on team morale.”

DaviDior, a rising star in the music industry who produced Justin Bieber and DJ Khaled’s “I’m the One,” which debuted at #1 on the Hot 100 charts, produced the Dynasty track’s melodic beats and punchy audio effects. The song represents the team’s goal to deliver a distinctive, gold-standard experience for Dynasty and esports fans alike.

“Listening to the walk-on song is like a shot of adrenaline through the body,” said Dynasty player and MVP candidate Kim “Fleta” Byung-sun. “The track gets us pumped to play, but also keeps us focused and reminds us of our heritage and drive to make our fans proud.”

The walk-on song is the first of many new lifestyle collaborations for Seoul Dynasty and its ownership group, Gen.G esports. In the mid-1990s, Hallyu, or “Korean Wave,” kicked off a worldwide craze for Korean music, fashion, television, and film. Ttabo : We are promoting overseas and our new album will be released this summer.

K-POPPED! : What was the first thing that came into your mind when you first heard that you’re coming to Malaysia for a tour?

Hyeme : Since I like food a lot, I was thinking about the Malaysian foods
Ttabo : I am surprised. It was like a dream.
Jieun : When I think of finally being able to meet with our overseas fans, I feel excited. My heart is going pit-a-pat while thinking about it.
Zi.U : Is it hot? And I want to learn the Malaysian language. Since it’s our first time going there, I feel excited and looking forward to it.

Hyeme : Is it possible for me to go on a Malaysian variety program?

Hyeme : It would be good if I could teleport, because I am lazy to move.

Jieun : When I watch Running Man, there is someone who can controls time, I found it quite interesting. No matter in happy times or someone who’s encountering a difficult situation, I think I could help them..
Zi.U : Someone who controls time!!! I want to go back to 10s.

K-POPPED! : Who do the members look up into the most in this industry? / Your role model?

Hyeme : Senior CL.
Ttabo : Beyonce, Nicki Minaj
Jieun : Senior BoA, she’s been my role model when I was in primary school till now.
Zi.U : Senior Kim Hye Soo and Senior CL. It was wonderful and respectful to walk in silence with your own way.

Hyeme : I am the one who use social media a lot.

Jieun : Everyone!! It’s a social media generation now, because we will have to communicate with our oversea fans as well, so we often holding our phones in hands.
Zi.U : Isn’t everyone is doing it well?? I do according to my feel! Sometimes I do, but sometimes I don’t! I just do it whenever I want.

K-POPPED! : The last song you listened to last night? / What is your current favourite song?

Hyeme : Rather than listening to favourite songs, I often listen to the latest songs.
Ttabo : Songs by Nicki Minaj
Jieun : Different at times, it’s based on my mood. The last song I listened to yesterday was the new song we are working on our Rania’s new album
Zi.U : The last song I listened to.. What was it? I’ve listened too much.. Friends..? The song I like the most.. Hmm… too much.. “Don’t give” and “Friends” is nice too.. It seems there’s too much that I like?!?!

 

K-POPPED! : What is the biggest goal you guys want to achieve as a group this year?

Hyeme : To win the 1st prize
Ttabo : I hope to have more fans.
Jieun : Hope Rania will be able to win an award! I want to be a group that is recognized not only in Korea but also overseas.

K-POPPED! : Have you ever in your trainee life had a thought like ‘should I just give up and be like other normal kids?

Hyeme : Yes, although I had a tough time, but I fought against it.
Ttabo: I’ve had thought about it.
Jieun : That’s a lie if I say no, right? Yes, I did! However, I regretted of having such thought. Because I have to do it..
Zi.U : I started my trainee life since I was 17 years old, I gave up my dream to be a singer when I was 19 to 20 years old due to the debut be killed off repeatedly. However, I wasn’t living like a usual person during that time either. I had been working as a model
and actor at the same time. I’ve never thought of living as a normal person and give up my works in the entertainment industry.

 

K-POPPED! : If you can be another member for a day, which member you want to be?

Hyeme : I want to live as Jieun.
Ttabo : I want to be our Leader Jieun, and have her long legs.
Jieun : Hyeme, I want to eat like Hyeme without worrying so much even just for a day.. Why isn’t she gaining weight no matter how she eats?
Zi.U : Hyeme, because we have a total tendency, I’d like to experience it!

 

K-POPPED! : Which member is the most different on and off camera?

Hyeme : Jieun
Ttabo : Everyone is different.
Jieun : Hyeme is different between on stage and off stage. She looks strong and girl crush on stage but she is showing her ‘maknae’ side when off-stage.

 Hyperplay has revealed its first wave of performers for MTV Spotlight @ Hyperplay today with South Korea’s superstar vocalist and rapper CL, Thailand’s leading rock band Slot Machine, Indonesian idol Afganand Singapore’s favorite The Sam Willows. Hyperplay, the first integrated ASEAN esports and music festival, is set to feature MTV Spotlight, which brings multi-genre talents onto a single stage at different times during Hyperplay. The two-day ticketed event will take place at the Singapore Indoor Stadium on Saturday, 4 August 2018 and Sunday, 5 August 2018. Additional acts will be announced in the coming weeks.

 

Hyperplay is powered by Riot Games and MTV, presented by the Singapore Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth (MCCY) and the National Youth Council (NYC) of Singapore, and supported by gold sponsor Clear Men. Hyperplay will integrate the two biggest pop culture pillars of this generation, esports and music, into a single weekend event. The esports tournament will share the stage with MTV Spotlight, comprised of four electrifying music performance segments by international, regional and local artists. The music performances will also be edited into a 60-minute “MTV Spotlight” special, which will premiere on 21 August on MTV in Southeast Asia.

K-pop superstar CL is now a versatile rapper, vocalist, dancer and songwriter who is considered ‘Asia’s Baddest Female’. Most recently, the bonafide star in South Korea slayed with her epic performance at the PyeongChang Winter Olympics closing ceremony.

 

She began her career at the age of 17 as the leader of 2NE1. The group made their debut in 2009. CL began writing and co-producing for 2NE1’s 2014 album “Crush” which became the bestselling and highest-charting Korean album in US Billboard 200 history. 2NE1 is the only Korean girl group to have not one but two solo headlining World Tours that have spanned 20 cities around the globe. In 2016, she was nominated by TIME Magazine for the second year in a row for their “100 Most Influential People in the World” list tying Hilary Clinton and beating out Rihanna, Kanye West and Justin Bieber in voting. 2018 New Hallyu Star Asean Music Award will be coming your way, this Asia-Korean Rising Star Pop Music Concept Awards Ceremony organized by Yi Pin Studio will be held in the first quarter of next year located in Kuala Lumpur. This award ceremony is presented to the rising star of KPOP artistes. In conjuction with this award ceremony, Yi Pin Studio has started a series of promo tour since 2016. This June the promo tour series continue with BLACK6IX in Sabah and RANIA in Peninsular Malaysia.


The South Korean boys group, BLACK6IX were received very passionate respond from Black Pearl (fandom name)in their last promo tour, end year 2017. The fans, BlackPearl repeatedly expressed their gratitude to the idols to visit Malaysia again. Let’s say, Black Pearl
