Sungei Wang 40th Anniversary Outdoor Live Concert hyped Bukit Bintang with 40 artistes and performers.

40 Years of Glory

Opened its doors since 1977, Sungei Wang was the icon for fashion trends and local Malaysian brands, both well-known and popular among all ages. It is one of the longest running malls in Malaysia and was the epicentre of the ‘La La Culture’ in the late 70s and 80s.

‘If you have not been to Sungei Wang, you have not been to KL’ –popular phrase in the 80s.

It was an entertainment paradise with an Olympic size ice skating rink, bumper cars, games arcade, discotheque hall and cinema. Sungei Wang was THE venue for fashion shows, beauty contests, artiste concerts and ‘meet and greet’ as well as festive countdowns. Sungei Wang played a huge part shaping the entertainment and fashion scene in the 80s.

New Evolution of Sungei Wang

On the 18 May this year, YB Dato’s Seri Mohamed Nazri Abdul Nazri, Minister of Tourism and Culture Malaysia kicked off the 40th anniversary celebration and officiated the next evolution of Sungei Wang. Sungei Wang introduced our new brand new logo, embodying the spirit of Sungei Wang’s legacy yet reflecting the transformation of the mall to cater for contemporary tastes.

“A series of anniversary campaigns and initiatives transforming the mall had taken place. The changes are such as the giant new logo signage erected right at our Main Entrance. We have commenced the refurbishment works of our entrances. As on-going efforts to be a tourist centric mall, Sungei Wang’s very own KL Hop-On Hop-Off ticketing kiosk and bus stop is now open for tourists to tour the KL city. Not only that, Sungei Wang’s Tourist Privilege Card is now available where international tourists can enjoy privileges from over 40 shops in the mall.” says Mr. Ng Yih Chen, Chairman of Sungei Wang Plaza Management Corporation.

“Not to miss out on the digital aspects, a newly revamped website reflect the new Sungei Wang. We even now have our very own Sungei Wang official YouTube channel.” He added.

The progress of evolving Sungei Wang will be not stopped after 40th Anniversary celebration. The next phase will be modernizing of the mall including the façade of the mall. The transformation will take about 2 years and target to complete by 2019. There was a recent announcement by CapitaLand Malaysia Mall Trust, Sungei Wang’s major parcel owner, for the upgrading of their units. Relevant announcements will be given when deem fit.

With the opening of the new MRT line connecting Sungei Buloh and Kajang, it has made coming to town and Sungei Wang much more convenient. More collaboration with the MRT and monorail will be seen in 2018.

New Thematic Area ‘Malaysia’s Best’

Sungei Wang has created many new thematic areas that was also introduced during the launch. The new thematic areas are the Cubez, Level 2; Foodzania, Level 3; Blastacar, Level 5 and Culture Street at Level Concourse. During the next month in December, Sungei Wang will also be introducing their new thematic area names as Malaysia’s Best. There will be a section on every floor showcasing Malaysia’s best products from food, fruits, plants, handicrafts, services and many more. All authentic products direct from the makers all around Malaysia. Shoppers and tourist will be able to get a taste of the best in Malaysia without needing to travel far.

G-DRAGON‘s name is not a stranger among K-pop fans. He is known as the talented composer, producer, singer, songwriter and the leader of the most popular K-pop boy band, BIGBANG. No doubt he is also successful as a solo artist and is also listed as one of the most richest K-pop idol to date.

Last Sunday (Sep 17th), marked another milestone for G-DRAGON as he completed his 27th show for MOTTE Tour, with another 9 shows to go. Almost 10,000 fans gathered at Stadium Merdeka, Kuala Lumpur to watch G-DRAGON Act III: M.O.T.T.E  ‘Moment of Truth The End’ World Tour in Kuala Lumpur.

Rainy concert days are very common every time BIGBANG comes to Malaysia, including this time also. Kuala Lumpur was raining heavily even before the concert started, yet it did not dampen any spirit of VIPs (BIGBANG fan club name) that came to watch the show.

As the weather was getting bad and the venue is an open stadium, the show which supposedly scheduled for 7.30PM was dragged later and only started at 8.20PM. The chanting and the cheers started slow, probably because everyone had a tiring day fighting the weather. But it all changed as G-DRAGON showed up on stage to open the performance with all time hits such as ‘Heartbreaker’, ‘Breathe’ and ‘A Boy’.

The loud screams and cheers continued as the idol performed his hits setlist such  as ‘Obsession’, ‘Go’, ‘One Of A Kind’, ‘That XX’, ‘Who You?’, ‘Crayon’ and more. The highlight of the night was when Sandara Park appeared as a special guest of the show, featuring G-DRAGON in ‘Missing You’ and ‘Hello’. Blackjacks (2NE1 fan club name) and Daragon (G-Dragon and Dara shippers) probably were the most happiest fans on Earth that night as they are witnessing their favourites live on stage.

Despite the rain continuing in the middle of the show, overall the concert was fantastic, the lighting, sound system, and the stage were first class. The artists was good and the live band compliments the artists’ performance completely. The only thing is, we do appreciated how hard working G-DRAGON is trying to communicate in English with his fans but sometimes we can’t get the point he want to say in his speech, LOL. We probably want to suggest a translator in his long speech as everything he want to say can delivered more effectively :p

Special thanks to IME Asia for the invitation. We had lots of fun at the concert!

Leo and Minah, two of the most unique voices in all of K-pop, proved that this was more than just a special stage. Impressing thousands of fans with their perfect harmonizing and perfect chemistry, the duet set the bar high for the night.

SF9, under FNC Entertainment, are rising rookies known for their sharp choreography and dance-inducing music. Appearing on stage, they performed a short dance intro to hype the start of the night. Cosmic Girls, under Starship Entertainment, previously performed at KCON Japan earlier this year and returned to KCON to perform for their fans in LA. Known for their multiple personalities and sweet charm, they opened performing their recent upbeat hit “Happy“. During their random play dance, their song “Mansae” started playing, which in reply, the members and everyone in the audience swayed their arms to the beat of the music. The members then gave away free shirts, as they shot them through hand cannons to fans in the audience. Fully as a group they performed “Don’t Wanna Cry“, “Rock“, and”Very Nice” as the grand finale.

-DAY 2-

KARD, under DSP Media, have gained mass popularity since their official debut on July 19th, 2017. With their rare concept of 2 boys and 2 girls, aside from the typical full boy/girl K-pop groups, they stand out from others in the current K-pop scene. With member BM originally from LA, him and the rest of his members expressed their excitement to be at KCON for the very first time. Performing their addictive up-beat songs “Don’t Recall“, “Hola Hola“, and “Oh Nana“, they hyped the audience as the first artist of day 2.

Heize, under CJ E&M, is a female solo artist known for her impressive rap and soulful voice. Previously performing for KCON in Japan, she made her first US appearance at KCON LA. After opening with her recent song “Don’t Know You“, she asked fans to turn on the flashlights on their cell phones, creating a sea of bright lights throughout the venue. Touched by the illuminating view, she performed her slow tempo hit, “Star“.

Oh My Girl, under WM Entertainment, are known best for their cute songs and bubbly personalities. After starting with their catchy recent release “Coloring Book“, the members also expressed their excitement to be in LA for the first time at KCON. Member Seunghee teased the audience saying “I always though LA fans had crazy energy, but I guess I was wrong. Am I wrong?” which got the audience screaming in response making the members laugh. Wrapping up their set, they pleased their fans by performing their iridescent tune “Closer“.

Kim Tae Woo, former lead singer of group G.O.D., is no rookie to performing in front of crowds. As the artist with the most seniority at KCON, many fans were met with long-awaited performances. Group Astro come onto the stage performing Tae Woo’s songs “Place Where You Need To Be“, and “One Candle” as his intro. As “One Candle” came near to it’s end, Tae Woo joined the stage with Astro for the song’s finale. He then performed his songs “Sorrow“, “Following“, and his newly released “Love Rain“.

NCT 127, under SM Entertainment, are currently one of the hottest rising rookie groups. After debuting in 2016, they have quickly risen to fame with their charismatic sound. Member Taeyong rose from middle stage and began an intense dance intro, with members joining his dance at the end. Member Johnny reached out to fans saying, “tonight you guys are here, and tonight we are here, so let’s make this a great experience!”.  The group performed their 3 singles “Fire Truck“, “Limitless“, and “Cherry Bomb“.

Astro, under Fantagio Entertainment, returned to the stage after attending KCON LA 2016 last year. With increased fans shouting and singing along, their rising popularity was well displayed. Participating in “Pinata” the members received items they could sign, and gave them to fans as “star goods”. They then also gave more fans free signed t-shirts, by throwing them through hand-cannons. Satisfying fans with the group’s fan service and engagement, they showcased their variety by performed songs “Again“, “Breathless“, “Polaris“, and “Baby“.

Wanna One, formed by trainee competition show Produce 101 Season 2, were one of the most anticipated groups at KCON LA. After only debuting 2 weeks prior to the event, they performed as a full group for the first time overseas. With members expressing their excitement for debuting, member Daniel told fans “It’s our first time being in LA, and we’re so excited to be here… can you guys believe it? We are more excited to meet you guys for the first time!”. Wasting no time to perform their anticipated setlist, they performed “Energetic“, “Burn It Up“, “Never“, and “Pick Me“.

GOT7, under JYP Entertainment, returned to KCON after attending KCON LA in 2015, and KCON Japan in 2017. As the last performers for KCON LA 2017, the audience was thriving with anticipation. Before the group took the stage as 7, their sub-unit JJ Project appeared on stage to perform their recent slow track release “TomorrowToday”. As excitement for performances by the full group was at it’s highest, member Yugyeom rose to center stage performing a dance freestyle. Hyping the fans energy with their appearance, the 7 joined the stage together and performed their hit song “Never Ever“. Participating in “Pinata“, two lucky fans got the privilege of being proposed to by members BambamYoungjae, and Jackson. After engaging with fans, they finished the night with “Everyday“, and “Hard Carry“.

Each artist walked onto the stage individually for their last goodbye, waving and shooting hearts at their fans. Although bittersweet, fans were left with a memorable experience from seeing their favorite idols performing their favorite songs. As fans continued to capture the moment on their cameras, and keep the flying confetti as a souvenir, the intercom came on for the last time announcing “Thank you for attending KCON LA 2017, and we’ll see you again next year!”.

K-Popped! would like to thank KCON USA for the privilege of being able to cover an event as extravagant as KCON! As each year gets even better, we’re anticipating next year!

Hyun A North American Tour: The Queen’s Back

March 6th, 2017

Dallas, Texas

7:30 pm

Organized by KPOPME, Hyun A finally embarked on her first North American Tour, “Hyun A: The Queen’s Back”, performing in cities such as Vancouver, Toronto, Montreal, Chicago, New York, Dallas, San Francisco, and Los Angeles.  After her performance for Austin’s annual “SXSW K-pop Night Out” back in 2014, her fans (A-ing) have been patiently waiting for the day when the queen would make her way back to the big state of Texas.

24-Year old Kim Hyun Ah has been in the Korean music industry for over 10 years, managed by the major music company, CUBE Entertainment.  She debuted as a member of the girl group “Wonder Girls”, but left and re-debuted as a member of “4Minute”.  She also joined a fun duo group called “Troublemaker” with Hyunseung of Beast, and is now a proven successful solo artist.

As Hyun A’s tour starts coming to a close with her final few nights, she is finally ready to perform in the metropolitan city of Dallas, Texas, located at Granada Theater on March 6th at 7:30 pm.

Tier 1 started entering the building at 6:00pm followed by tier 2 and 2.5, until finally, regular general admission ticket holders could enter.  As fans started entering the building, purchasing merchandise, and getting through security, the venue became filled with hyped fans eager for the show to start.

At approximately 6:50pm, the lights dimmed as Hyun A’s Dallas dance contest winner, Alex Barron, took the stage to perform his cover of the huge single, “Bubble Pop!”.  With his sharp moves and flowing energy, the venue was immediately filled with screams of fanboys and fangirls as they shouted along to the lyrics.  His performance was followed by an array of cheers and claps, setting the atmosphere for an exciting night.

Hyuna in Dallas

Shortly after Alex’s superb performance, the lights dimmed and an introduction video began.  Shots of Hyun A strolling through fog in glamorous outfits began, followed by phrases “The Queen’s Back” brought upon the screen, which led up the to final phrase “Now You See The Queen”.

Lights started flashing and screams progressed louder, when finally, four backup dancers lined up to the stage.  A freestyle dance began as they performed to a remix of “Roll Deep (잘나가서 그래)“, spotlighting each dancer as they showcased their talent.

As the backup dancers continued performing, and fans waiting excitedly, the queen Hyun A was finally seen walking to the center of the stage.  Hyun A wore an oversized KISS t-shirt with high velvet purple boots and voluminous curly hair.  She began the night with a powerful performance to her hit song, “Roll Deep (잘나가서 그래)“.

As her first performance finished, the lights turned back on to her as she cutely asked the crowd, “Did you miss me?”.  She then started asking if fans could see her well, and she let them know that she could see them perfectly.  The backup dancers started to get back on stage as lights dimmed a saturated blue. She then began her second hit song “Ice Cream“, which was followed by her non-title track, “French Kiss“.

Hyuna(4)

The Q&A began after, and Hyun A sat in front of a bulletin board filled with bright colorful sticky notes with fan questions.  Hyun A was in between her translator and the host of the night, Shimmy.  Shimmy then asked her the first question, “What would you take with you if you were deserted on an island?”. Hyun A surprisingly stated, “This is the most interesting question I’ve gotten so far on the tour!  If by any chance there’s going to be someone rescuing me from this deserted island..”, to which a fan screamed, “나! (me!)”, causing the crowd and Hyun A herself to laugh.  She then replied back to the fan, “I’ll be waiting for you”.

Then to answer the question, Hyun A stated, “First.. I think I need a friend, anybody counts.  Second.. a camera, I want to save that moment on a camera.  Third.. a smartphone, I don’t know if there’s going to be connection, but I’ll be hunting and finding one.”

Lights dimmed back to red and Hyun A performed “A Talk“, followed by her slow dance track “U&Me“. As Hyun A and her dancers exited the stage, a short video compiled of Hyun A photos and title song names appeared on screen.  Moments later, Hyun A and her dancers walked back on stage.  Hyun A, in a new outfit, was wearing a black and white two piece, white fishnets, white tennis shoes, and her hair in two long side braids.

The lights then dimmed red again as she started to perform her huge hit “Red (빨개요)“.  After her performance, the dancers exited the stage.  Meanwhile her translator and MC Shimmy were brought back on stage.
Hyun A then told everyone, “I think you’re all really smart for following along in Korean! I think you’re all smarter than me.”.  She cutely continued in English, “very very smart”, which brought smiles upon the crowd’s faces.  A fan then yelled, “아니요! (no!)”, causing Hyun A to laugh and say, “Ooh, she’s really smart!”.  Hyun A then took a question from an audience member who asked, “Do you miss home?”.  With a smile on Hyun A’s face, she replied, “아니요 (no).”, making fans “awe”.
MC Shimmy proceeds to ask the crowd for volunteers for a game and immediately fans raised their hands and shouted loudly to be picked.  Hyun A picked out three lucky fans and they were each brought onto stage.  The game was called, “How much do you and Hyun A have in common?”.  It consisted of one lucky fan and Hyun A (who stood next to each other) who answered A or B-type questions without talking to each other.  During one question (make-up or no make-up?), Hyun A stated, “I want to show my fans what I look like without make-up because I usually do not like putting on make-up.”.
She then pointed to her make-up artist in the crowd, giving her a shout out, which caused fans to root for her.  In the end, all three contestants won the prize of a Hyun A polaroid which she kissed as she handed them out, followed by a hug.
As the three lucky fans exited the stage, she then picked out five more fans, and they all unknowingly were entered into a dance battle.  The then music started blaring to “Roll Deep (잘나가서 그래)” and each contestant danced their heart out.
The venue was filled with cheers and laughter, and Hyun A also started rooting for the fans.  The MC then had each contestant line up to the front of the stage and Hyun A stood back behind them.  She then picked her favorite dancer by giving them a back hug, to which the lucky fan was brought to tears.  Hyun A gave the winner a tote bag filled with gifts after and hugged the rest of the contestants as they left the stage.
Hyuna(5)

Next, Hyun A performed her debut single “Change”, followed by her seductive hit “Freaky (꼬리쳐)”. She then took a break to talk with fans, which erupted into multiple presents being thrown on stage.

One of the presents was a Mexican-American flag, which Hyun A held up, causing the venue to erupt in screams and claps.  Hyun A also received a cute Texas hat and other gifts that she gave to her staff to put away, and thanked the fans for being generous enough to bring her gifts.  As soon as her talk was over, she performed her most recent hit, “How’s This (어때?)“.

At the end of her performance, she thanked fans for the eventful night and proceeded to wave and exit the stage as if she was done performing.  Fans then began to chant, “Hyun A! Hyun A!”, and shortly after she appeared back on stage to perform her final song, “Bubble Pop!“.

37

The night had unfortunately come to an end, but Hyun A had her last talk with A-ings.  She let her fans know that she would be returning when she finished working on her new album.  Hyun A then told everyone, “Dallas has some of the prettiest fans.”, to which MC Shimmy replied, “Just so you guys know, she hasn’t said that at any of the other stops.” making fans feel special.  Shimmy then let A-ings know, “I’ve worked with a lot of artists, but Hyun A is one of the most genuine people I’ve ever worked with and she truly cares about her fans.”
Hyun A bowed and thanked Shimmy for his kind words.  She also bowed and thanked Dallas fans once again for the unforgettable night before exiting the stage for the last time while sending out heart signs.

As soon as the concert was over, tier 1, 2 , and 2.5 were given the chance to have their hi-touch and meet and greet photo opportunity.

Although the night ended quick, fans were extremely hyped about the great performance Hyun A gave and were left with a lasting impression that Hyun A, was indeed, the queen.

Last, but certainly not least, K-Popped! would like to thank KPOPME and CUBE Entertainment for the opportunity to participate in such a phenomenal event, “Hyun A’s North American Tour: The Queen’s Back”.

An event produced by KPOPME, the women empowering Kim Hyun A, performed on the stages of Chicago on March 1st at the Vic Theatre as part of her first North American tour.

Hyun A is a well-known Korean artist from CUBE Entertainment and a member of the former group, 4Minute.  She has proven herself relentlessly over the years that she is a Queen B with her jaw-dropping dance moves, vocals, and sharp rap.  She has established herself to be a one-of-a-kind solo female artist within the Korean music industry, as well as globally, and is continuing to do so.

Prism Kru, a co-ed dance group based in the heart of Chicago, opened Hyun A’s concert with a dance cover of “어때? (How’s this?)“.  The nine members destroyed the stage as they showed off the Hyun A-style choreography for the crowd.

Moments later, the lights died down and an introduction video began to play at the front of the stage. Hyun A appeared on the screen, entering through a heavy fog and strutting around fiercely, causing loud fanboy and fangirl alike screams.  With the words, “Now you see the queen.” and Hyun A posing at the end, the video blacked out and red lights radiated the stage.

Four back-up dancers entered the stage swiftly from each side, performing their own bit before Hyun A walked out in a simple, yet stunning black dress with thigh-high boots to perform “잘나가서 그래 (Roll Deep)”, featuring Illhoon of BTOB.

Once the song was over, the back-up dancers exited the stage, and the out-of-breath Hyun A walked to the center where she introduced herself to her fans called A-ing.  Hyun A then talked about how she worried about the weather because it snowed so much, but went on to say that even though it was cold outside, she wanted to have a hot time with fans that night.

Hyun A then invited the host, Shimmy (known as the YouTuber, Shimmycocopuffsss), onto the stage with her.  She started to explain that since she could see everyone’s faces clearly during her performances, she felt their powerful energy.  The host proceeded to ask Hyun A if she was liking Chicago so far, and in response, Hyun A told everyone that she did.

The talk session also consisted of HyunA mentioning the stops she already did and would be going to for her North American tour.  Her first stop began in Vancouver on February 22nd, following Toronto, Montreal, Chicago, New York, Dallas, San Francisco, and her finale show in Los Angeles on March 10th.

Next, Hyun A walked back and forth on the stage to pose for pictures.  Everyone quickly took out their phones and snapped dozens of photos of their beloved Queen B.

With the crowd riled up from Hyun A’s fan service, the host followed up by asking what the next song would be in which Hyun A expressed that it was her cute and sexy song, “Ice Cream”.  Hyun A also performed “French Kiss” shortly after.

Later on, Shimmy came back out to the stage and chatted some more, while Hyun A told her fans how thankful she was that they knew the lyrics and sung along to all of her performances so far.

The Q&A session was next on the list.  Little colorful sticky notes filled the board on stage with fun questions written by Chicago A-ings.  One of the first questions were, “Have you tried Chicago pizza?”. In reply, Hyun A said that she hadn’t, but had saved a piece from when the staff had some to eat later at her hotel due to the fact that she had to wear a tight dress and wanted to show the best side of herself to the fans.  A-ings “aww’ed”, sympathizing with Hyun A for not being able to eat Chicago pizza just yet. HyunA then told everyone in English, “I’m okay.” and mentioned that she liked her fans more than pizza anyway, causing people to melt into puddles of goo.

From Hyun A recommending which Korean foods to eat such as kimchi pancakes, to revealing that Jessi is a celebrity that Hyun A is closest with, to Hyun A wanting to stop time as a superpower- fans enjoyed every split second of learning more about the lovely Kim Hyun A from the Q&A session.

Shimmy then took a couple of personal questions from the audience.  Fans waved their arms furiously and aimlessly to grab ahold of Hyun A’s attention.  They didn’t want to miss out on an opportunity to have their own questions answered by Hyun A herself.

One fan who was closer to the stage asked Hyun A if he looked cute and Hyun A agreed without hesitation.  The last fan asked if he could give Hyun A a gift, throwing a t-shirt to the stage where Hyun A opened it to reveal a fan art picture of herself.  She bowed and thanked him sincerely.  Upon noticing, Hyun A looked at her t-shirt in her hands and back at what the fan was wearing until realizing and saying, “Ahh, couple t-shirt?”.  Surely, the fanboy was more than happy that he could now share the same couple item with Hyun A.

The lights then turned off before a slow and enchanting beat revealed to be Hyun A’s next song “A Talk”, followed by “U & Me”.

Hyuna at Chi

After the two songs ended, Hyun A hurried off stage and another video appeared at the front of the stage’s screen. Fans jumped up and down, screamed their heads off, and anything else you could imagine if you were in the shoes of a fan as the video played Hyun A’s history throughout her years as a soloist.

Epic red and purple lights flashed in all directions on stage, making a grand entrance for Hyun A who came out in a new outfit consisting of a black crop top embroidered with roses, black skinny jeans, and killer heels that would make it hard for anyone to walk in, let alone dance.

Hyun A then performed her carefree and upbeat song, “빨개요 (Red)” for the audience.

Next, came one of the most highly-anticipated parts of the event which was the interaction between Hyun A and Chicago A-ings.  Fans were chosen one-by-one to either receive gifts or play a game on stage with HyunA.

During the interaction session, two fangirls were chosen to play a game where they had to match answers with Hyun A by shouting (without knowing the other’s thought).  In the end, both fangirls each won a personalized kissed polaroid thanks to Hyun A who cutely whispered the answers into the fans’ ears during the game.  Who said you couldn’t cheat, especially if you’re Hyun A?

Another wonderful moment for A-ings included five fans who were unknowingly picked to dance on stage to impress Hyun A.  Although they weren’t expecting a dance-off, the five fans brought their A-game and pleased Hyun A nonetheless as they danced to short snippets of “잘나가서 그래 (Roll Deep)” and “Bubble Pop!”.  Ultimately, one fanboy caught Hyun A’s attention and he was able share the stage with her to 어때? (How’s this?).

Check out the video posted by the fanboy himself to see why he won!

The concert was coming to a close, but Hyun A still had a few more things left to do before taking off for the night.  Despite sweating and working hard, Hyun A continued to entertain A-ings with her debut song “Change”, followed by “꼬리쳐 (Freaky)”.

Unfortunately, this was when the good things had to end, but Hyun A went the extra mile for fans by insisting that since she didn’t know when she’d be back, she’d like to take a group photo for memory.

With much thoughtfulness, Hyun A politely instructed the staff to turn the lights on the balcony so that fans up there could be seen in the group picture.  Hyun A then kneeled down and made a heart pose for one shot, while standing up and stretching her limbs out proudly to show off her fans behind of her for the second shot.

Shimmy, the host, asked Hyun A for the last time what her future plans were.  Hyun A replied that she still had other cities to perform in North America, and once she was done touring, she would go back to South Korea.  A-ings disagreed with her going back, but Hyun A sweetly said that she would just prepare her next album in Chicago, causing fans to have a heart attack and wishing for it to come true.

Hyun A then talked about how she appreciated the time she spent with A-ings in Chicago and how their support will help her prepare for her future album.  As for the final performance, Hyun A prepared her most recent title track, 어때? (How’s this?).

After the final song, the lights within the Vic Theatre turned back on and fans showed disappointment that the show was now over, but their hopelessness soon faded away as “Bubble Pop!” blasted overhead.  Fans were excited that the concert didn’t end yet and that they still had more time to spend with Hyun A.

Hyun A immediately came out just as excited as A-ings were and sat on the edge of the stage to be more intimate with her fans.  She then got up and handed out some roses during the performance, and gave her last of fan service as she waved and blowed multiple flying kisses before exiting the stage.

Afterwards, the lucky fans who bought a tier 1, 2, or 2.5 ticket had the chance to either hi-touch Hyun A or take a group photo with her.

Although A-ings didn’t want the night to ever end, they now knew that the queen was back.

Lastly, we at K-popped! would like to thank CUBE Entertainment and KPOPME for giving us the opportunity to take part of Hyun A’s North American Tour 2017: The Queen’s Back.

YG Entertainment’s monster rookie, iKON, visited Malaysia for the first time last Saturday. iKON successfully wrapped up their concert at Stadium Negara and the K-popped! crew were there to join in the hype!

iKON iKONCERT Showtime Tour in Malaysia (1)

Organized by IME Asia and supported by Malaysia Major Events, the concert has been the talk of the town. Below, we bring you five highlighted moments during iKONCERT SHOWTIME in Malaysia:

1) RESPECT! iKON touched their Malaysian fans’ hearts at their concert recently. In respect of a lot of Muslims fans, they pushed the concert to a later timing, giving fans some time to pray. The organizer, IME Asia should be applauded for delivering such concerns to iKON’s management!

iKON iKONCERT Showtime Tour in Malaysia (2)

2) CONSIDERATE! Since the sexy image is a taboo in Malaysia, iKON members wore stockings/leggings to cover up during their girl group cover song parody, to avoid any sensitive issues in Malaysia. How can you not love these boys?

3) SAFETY FIRST! We usually have RELA teams maintaining order during previous concerts. But for iKON’s concert, we also had police officers on standby to avoid any unexpected incidents. Thank goodness everything ended smoothly!

iKON iKONCERT Showtime Tour in Malaysia (4)

4) POPULARITY! 5,000 fans flooded Stadium Negara to witness the 7 member boy group’s first concert ever in Malaysia. If you think they are all fangirls, think again. There were A LOT OF FANBOYS!!!

5) ENERGETIC! The boys performed 22 songs including their hits ‘Rhythm Ta’, ‘My Type’, ‘Dumb & Dumber’, ‘Apology’, ‘Airplane’! The energetic performances left the fans wanting for more.

If there was something to be improved, we would say that the sound system was not the best that night. The music was sometimes too loud and we could barely hear the vocals singing.

iKON iKONCERT Showtime Tour in Malaysia (3)

iKON’s concert was the first for a rookie group in Malaysia as the scale was big compared to some more veteran idol group. We had a great time and so did the fans! Here’s hoping to meet iKON on Malaysian shores again in the future!

Song list:

  1. Rhythm Ta
  2. Dumb & Dumber
  3. Sinosijak
  4. My Type
  5. Today

Hip hop artists, Dok2 and The Quiett, started off their first U.S. tour for NO RE$T in Chicago on July 21st, 2016.  The duo started Illionaire Records back in 2011 when they wanted a company that didn’t regulate the same as K-pop companies.  Since then, Dok2 and The Quiett have successfully built Illionare Records and signed Beenzino.

K-popped

The heat in Chicago reached a high of around 90 degrees on Thursday, but that didn’t prevent fans from waiting outside of Concord Music Hall.

Before the start of the concert, Diamond ticket holders were let in early and had the opportunity to have a meet and greet with Dok2 and The Quiett.  Afterwards, the venue slowly began to fill with the rest of the fans who were eagerly waiting for the concert to begin.

With the lights dimmed and fans waving their flashy light sticks in the air, an introduction video began to play on the screen at the front of the stage, causing huge roars from the crowd.  Dok2 and The Quiet suddenly appeared moments later in the introduction video, giving their own twist to the Beverly Hills life.

The beat then dropped to the remix of “Beverly 1lls” and you could tell that this was what a Korean hip hop concert is all about.  And despite the unlucky weather outside, Dok2 and The Quiett continued to perform and even cooled the audience by splashing water on them from time to time.

Other songs that Dok2 and The Quiett performed at the concert include, “Don“, “1 Life 2 Live“, “Future Flame“, “On My Way“, “Bentley“, “Body 2 Body“, and many more tasteful hip hop tracks.

Unfortunately, the night came to an end by 10 o’clock, but before departing the duo performed one last encore stage for their fans.

To say the least, Dok2 and The Quiett surely didn’t disappoint anyone with their high energy, professionalism, and good vibes that night in Chicago.

And if you thought this was the end of it, you’re definitely wrong as we also received access to Dok2 and The Quiett’s press conference.

So here it is!

Q: You’ve done a lot of collaborations.  Is there any artists that you want to collaborate in the future with (in Korea)?

Dok2In Korea, no, nobody.

Q: How about the States?

Dok2: Anybody. *laughs*

Q: I know you’ve (The Quiett) been in the hip hop scene since 2004 in Korea, how do you feel that it’s changed from then until now?

The Quiett: I think it’s great right now because there was nothing back in 2004 and 2005.  So right now the hip hop scene in Korea got bigger so much and it’s easy to get money and respect.  So right now, it’s great.

Q: Since this is the first time you’re touring the U.S., is there any hope or expectations you have that your U.S. audience would get out of the concert?

Dok2: No no, there’s nothing special.  They just gotta enjoy it.  Yeah, that’s it.  We don’t expect something.

Q: In particular, are there any Chicago-based hip hop artists that you’re inspired by such as Kanye West, Chance the Rapper, or someone else?

Dok2: A lot of people, you know.  I grew up listening to R. Kelly a lot and Common Sense and on my last album I did a song with Young Chops.  He’s from Chicago too.

The Quiett: Chief Keef.  Twister.  Many rappers from Chicago that we’re definitely inspired by.

Q: Are you guys thinking about releasing another album soon?  Or are you guys working on anything currently right now?

Dok2: We put out a lot of music, so you know, he’s (The Quiett) working on this new album.  I’m working on my new single, new anything.  Yeah, we put out a lot of music.  We’re always working on our music.  Like 365, like 365 like the whole year.  We do concerts, music, concerts, put out music.  It’s like that, so…

Lastly, we at K-popped! would like to give a huge thank you to Mandoo Entertainment and Illionaire Records for having us.

On April 17th, K-pop fans all over the United States decided it was perfectly fine to have a restless Monday by attending B.A.P‘s long-awaited return to Los Angeles for their Live on Earth 2016 USAwake! Tour.

Since 2014, the boys did not have any activities in United States. After announcing their return in March, enthusiastic BABYs already planned a heartfelt welcome for the talented performers!

BAP LOE2016 LA_02

The concert took place at one of the most decorated venues, the Microsoft Theater at Los Angeles Live. Thrilled fans eagerly waited outside the venue, taking pictures with the tour advertisement, passing out materials for fan projects, and lining up early to find their seat before B.AP. was brought on stage.

As the K-poppers waited nervously waited for the boys to make their grand entrance, the crew played pumped up music to prepare fans for the long awaited arrival of B.A.P!

BAP LOE2016 LA_01

The boys kicked off the night with none other than their debut song, ‘Warrior‘. BABYs astonished the performers by singing along to all the songs performed, which pumped B.A.P. to perform better than ever. The members also surprised fans by performing a few special stages, with solos from members Himchan and Youngjae, and a duo with Jongup and Yongguk. As a group, they performed both types of tracks- upbeat and wild.

B.A.P. worked very hard to create a memorable night for everyone. They have 4 more stops in North America and we know that those performance will be just as incredible and memorable as the one in Los Angeles. We hope to see the boys again soon!
