My experience on the MTV Asia Awards Red Carpet

Published on August 6, 2008 by in Music

As most of you who have been following this blog would know, i had the chance to photograph on the Red Carpet at the recent 2008 MTV Asia Awards in Genting, Malaysia. This is my first time on the Red Carpet, much less photographing the gorgeous stars. I was very intimidated. Some photogs had very sophisticated equipment and years of experience. Some had more than one camera, some had a two-step ladder to help them get a better shot. All i had with me was my Nikon D40 with its kit lens. No extra zoom lens, no external flash… RTM reporter giving a live report. It was pandemonium on the Red Carpet. Fans were screaming and everyone was excited! Photographers and media were on one side of the Red Carpet, and we were confined in a wooden box about chest high. Official photographers of the event however, get to walk around freely. It was a photography battlefield out there, and i had no friends. Everyone was vying for good pictures. To each his own. You’ve got to push and squeeze your way through to get a good shot. I even heard of a photog stepping on someone else’s equipment bag

Waiting for Super Junior in the Press Room

So Orchid and I were not in the Arena of Stars where the 2008 MTV Asia Awards ceremony was held. We were at the Basement of Theme Park Hotel, which is next to the Arena of Stars. I was in the Press Room, a rather small room where the stars would drop by after receiving their award. They would then give interviews to the press. Super Junior: (l-r) Shiwon, Ryeowook, Heechul, Kyuhyun, Eunhyuk,Donghae, Yesung, Sungmin & Eeteuk (yay! I’m so happy I finally recognise them) So I waited for Super Junior. I remembered counting the 10 chairs on stage and thinking to myself that if SuJu were to come, one of them would have to stand. The award ceremony started at 7pm (ended at about 9.30pm) and I watched it through the LCD screens provided in the room. There was an audio glitch at the start so I didn’t get to hear the song dance crew Jabbawockeez was dancing to. Great choreography, by the way :-P. Shiwon speaks English And the winner is…: Super Junior steps up to accept the Favourite Artist Korea Award. They beat out Big Bang, Girls Generation and Wonder Girls. Or perhaps a kiss on the cheek by the handsome oppas? Super Junior arrived on the Red Carpet right after the Pussycat Dolls. Before i could even catch my breath after all the excitement, SuJu walked up like so… Super Junior arrives at the 2008 MTV Asia Awards -all dressed in black & white. Dashing Shiwon in allblack (with V-necked shirt) and Eeteuk was in front. Eeteuk says “Look Shiwon, isn’t that Orchid from K-popped!?” Orchid waves back “Annyeong handsome oppa” After that brief interlude, it’s back to business on the Red Carpet and leader Eeteuk lines the guys up for a group photo. Eeteuk rounds up the group while Eunhyuk thinksShiwon looks great and gives him a thumbs up. They decide to do their signature move

K-popped! minus Rooster will be going to Genting tomorrow[Map courtesy of Google Maps] For the benefit of non-Malaysians, let me tell you more about this place called Genting where the MTV Asia Awards will be held. Genting Highlands is also called the “City of Entertainment”. To those who are not familiar with Genting, in a nutshell, it’s the Las Vegas of Malaysia. Located on a hill, it has a cool climate all year round. People usually go there because it houses Malaysia’s one and only casino. There are also outdoor and indoor

2008 MTV Asia Awards in Malaysia

Published on June 18, 2008 by in Music

Read our entries on the 2008 MTV Awards Asia here! Super Junior Press Conference, Red Carpet pics and more… Finally, Malaysia is about to see some (almost?) guaranteed K-pop action, thanks to the 2008 MTV Asia Awards. Coming soon: The MTV Asia Awards is set to rock Malaysia The prestigious pan-regional music event is going to be held right in our backyard folks, at the Arena of Stars in Genting – City of Entertainment. Genting Highland is Malaysia’s “sin city” as it’s famous for its casinos. The city on a hill is also known for its haunted hotels as many have committed suicide after losing big – probably their life savings – at the casinos. Hmm, I don’t make a very good spokesperson for the place, huh? Anyway, Jared Leto of 30 Seconds to Mars will be hosting the August 2nd event. Jared Leto: ‘It’s an honour to be a part of what I’m sure will be an exciting andunforgettable night in a magical and beautiful country. MTV has been an importanthome for 30 Seconds to Mars throughout our worldwide journey. I am very proud tojoin everyone in such a unique and gorgeous location like Malaysia. It is going to

Introducing Super Junior-M

Published on April 8, 2008 by in Music

Wait a minute, i am confused! It’s not enough that Korea’s largest boy band Super Junior has 12(+1) members, now i find out that there are subgroups in Super Junior? Super Junior-M (슈퍼주니어-M) is the 3rd official subgroup of SuJu. Super Junior-M consists of five Super Junior members namely Han Geng, Donghae, Siwon, Ryeowook, Kyuhyun, Henry and Zhou Mi. The group is a combination of Korean and Chinese members. My guess is, Henry and Zhou Mi are Chinese. Super Junior-M is probably formed by SM Entertainment‘s head honcho Lee Soo-man to break into the Chinese market. “M” stands for “Mandarin” if you are curious. Today (8 April 2008) marks the birth of Super Junior-M There’s also Super Junior-T, which is the 2nd official subgroup of Super Junior. “T” stands for “trot” and if you are guessing that SuJu-T are a group of guys who come together and perform trot music, then you got that right! SuJu-T consist of these Super Junior boys: Leeteuk, Heechul, Kang-In, Shindong, Sungmin, and Eunhyuk. Are there any more Super Junior subgroups? Of course! There’s Super Junior-K.R.Y. What does that stand for? Well, i am not telling you… Find out for youself. This is getting out
