Tele Cinema Project

Published on June 9, 2009 by in Buzz, Tee Vee

Tweet I’ve heard a lot about the Tele Cinema Project (텔레시네마). It’s time to delve deeper into this and find out more. What is this telecinema project that everyone is talking about? The “telecinema” project is a Japan-Korea joint production (Japan’s Asahi TV and Korea’s SBS) where each 120-minute made for TV movies will be aired on television in Korea (via SBS) and in cinemas in Japan. In Korea, they will be aired in two one-hour episodes. Hence, you get the term tele-cinema! Staying true to it being a joint-venture, each installment has a Korean producer and Japanese screenwriter. It has been reported that there will be a total of ten projects which make up the Telecinema omnibus, and some of them staring famous boy band group members namely TVXQ‘s Hero Jaejoong, and Big Bang‘s TOP and Seung-ri. Now, i’m sure you’ve caught whiff of those! Other famous stars involved are Kang Ji-hwan, Kim Ha-neul, Lee Ji-ah, Ahn Jae-wook, Kang Hye Jung and Daniel Henney. The Tele Cinema episodes / films will be aired simultaneously in both countries. The below (though not comprehensive) is a list of projects under the TeleCinema omnibus.1. TVXQ’s Vacation: Eternal (2007)

Published on November 9, 2008 by in Dramas

Tweet Korean title: 이터널 (I-teo-neol) What’s popping: Tie warp alert! Micky Yoochun enters a twilight zone of his own as he returns to the little seaside town he spent a part of his childhood in. It’s a journey of self-discovery for Micky, who is tired of living the life of a popular star. Feeling depressed and hemmed in, he is reminded of a childhood promise/wish by a very close friend that indirectly (or directly, if you wish) made him who he is today. Micky “returns” to 1994 and meets himself as a boy. He then relives an incident in the past that brings back memories of the wish he made with his then best friend, Joojin. And with that, he becomes more appreciative of who he has become – depression and loss of freedom and all. Me & Myself?: ‘Dude, you walk like me!’ Micky is OK in his role, but I think the kids who portrayed young Micky (Shin Tae-hoon) and Joojin (Choi Sul-li) had more screentime than the TVXQ heartthrob himself. Nonetheless, the gist of the story is a touching and entertaining one. The plot: Stretched thin while preparing for their upcoming concert, the five boys of TVXQ/

TVXQ’s Vacation: The Way U Are (2007)

Published on November 7, 2008 by in Dramas

Tweet Korean title: 더 웨이 유아 (Deo-wei-yoo-ah) What’s popping: Well, well, well, there’s more to Hero Jaejoong than just his pretty face. The boy is surprisingly a versatile actor. His story has a doppelganger twist to it and Hero easily takes on the role of a sleazy conman, an action hero (sic) and a punching bag (you’ve gotta watch the drama) apart from playing his rather clueless self. Hero’s story is about mistaken identity. He looks exactly like a thug named Changshik, who is in a whole lot of trouble with the club owner he works with – Changshik stole his boss’ money to help pay for his Mom’s surgery. The story begins when Hero is about to get his ticket for his much-needed vacation. He is grabbed by Changshik’s former boss’ men and beaten up. Kerr-pow!: Only death and destruction lie in Hero’s wake Nobody believes him when he tells them who he really is (Changshik used the same tactics – saying that he’s Hero of TVXQ – to escape) so he has to deal with all the baggage the illusive Changshik left behind – and that includes a pissed off girlfriend. Out running Hero: ‘Come on, keep up

TVXQ’s Vacation: Beautiful Life (2007)

Published on November 5, 2008 by in Dramas

Tweet What’s popping: Both Xiah Junsu and Max Changmin are adorable and hilarious in this one. Xiah shines in his performance as a guy who always gets into uncomfortable situations with a local lass named Young Shim (Park Hee-bon). She catches him taking a leak in the open numerous times, is hit in the head by solid objects a couple of times and eventually bullied into impersonating a grandson for a lonely Grandma. Meanwhile, Max’s stint as a postman is laugh-out-loud funny, thanks to the Grandmas who find the strapping, pretty boy attractive. He gets molested a lot by the old women when he goes about delivering mail. Xiah and Max are taking their break together. The pair travels to a remote village that only has 23 people made up of mostly elderly folks. Once there, Xiah literally bumps into an old man, who is the village postman, and causes him to hurt his back. Mr. Postman: Max is a hit with the elderly women in the village The pair makes amends by helping the old man out now that he can’t deliver letters. Max is tasked with being the village postman, while Xiah gallivants around the village getting into

TVXQ takes a Vacation

Published on November 3, 2008 by in Dramas

Tweet And so does the K-popped! Trio . Hi guys, since we are a little preoccupied exploring the sights and sounds of Seoul, I’ve prepared reviews on TVXQ’s Vacation drama omnibus to keep ya company (in case we don’t get ourselves to a computer while in Korea). I received the omnibus last Christmas, together with the band’s 3rd album O. Jung. Ban. Hap. The package contained the CD, omnibus DVD and a poster of the guys. The unfortunate thing is, the DVD only has Chinese subtitles! But seeing how interesting the stories are, I re-watched all four dramas with English subs on YouTube. I enjoyed them tremendously! Each TVXQ member, except Xiah Junsu and Max Changmin, have their own individual story. Their stories begin when the TVXQ boys are given a break from each other for two weeks before their grueling concert tour. Drama: Left to right U-Know in Cassiopeia, Xiah & Max in Beautiful Life,Hero in The Way U Are and Micky in Eternal. After watching the omnibus, Hero Jaejoong surprised me as he turned out to be a versatile actor in The Way You Are. Meanwhile, Xiah Junsu and Max Changmin displayed their comedic timing in the hilarious

TVXQ’s Vacation: Cassiopeia (2007)

Published on November 3, 2008 by in Dramas

Tweet Korean title: 카시오페아 (Ka-shi-o-pe-ah) What’s popping: Of all the shorts in the omnibus, this is just so-so for me. Maybe it’s the run-of-the-mill plot, maybe its U-Know’s ghostly white make-up and frizzy hair, I dunno…but it didn’t stand out much. All it did was deliver a couple of good laughs. It’s about U-Know, who has been getting fan mails from an ardent Cassiopeia who is terminally ill. Her dying wish is to meet him. However, a letter arrives informing him that she has died of leukemia. Saddened, the leader of TVXQ decides to spend his break looking into the matter. When he arrives at the hospital, he is told by the doctor that the girl, Soo-yun (Go Eun-ah) is still very much alive. When confronted, Soo-yun says that she did what she did for the sake of her elder sister Jung-ah (Woo Kyeong-ha), who is in a catatonic state after an accident. Frizzy: ‘What, you haven’t done it before? Dude, just stickyour head in the dryer – it works all the time.’ Now that a living, breathing pop idol is in the neighbourhood, Soo-yun asks him to stay and perform for Jung-ah’s coming birthday celebration. He obliges and the
