Bad Love (2007)

Korean title: 못된사랑 (Mot-dwen-sa-rang)

What’s popping:

What a great Christmas present we received last night when KBS World aired the first episode of Kwon Sang-woo and Kim Sung-su‘s latest melodrama Bad Love (the network named it Cruel Love)!

After a very early Christmas morning running around at church followed by a very late Korean lunch (more on that next time) with the women of the clan, it was nice to finally unwind in front of the TV; watching two very handsome oppas – 좋아해요!

OK, enough about me. How was the show? I enjoyed the first episode and am looking forward to the next one.

We saw Su-hwan (Kim Sung-su) and Na In-jung (Lee Yo-won) falling in love (pic below) before he informs her that he’s married and wants out. Damn.

Kiss: *Cue Marvin Gaye “Let’s Get It On”*

Su-hwan’s wife is a spoilt, rich b*tch who turns into a kleptomaniac during “that time of the month”. Uh huh, she steals from her family’s store whenever she’s ovulating and walks around with this ugly Afro-like wig on. Oh, wait a minute, the wig seems to be a permanent fixture.

But her Daddy’s Mr. Rich, Powerful and Influential and cheating hubby decides to stay with her so he can fulfill his ambition. Also, Rich B*tch doesn’t want to let hubby go since oppa’s so hot and all…I think ;-).

Enter Yong-gi (Kwon Sang-woo), an artist who has had his heart broken when Daddy disapproved of his relationship with some chick. He’s planning to go to New York – new beginnings and all that jazz – but meets the very heart broken In-jung on the way to the airport.

Hey, out of curiosity, was the kissing scene in the first episode? You know, the one that took 10 hours to film? If it was, then our Malaysian censors snipped it out.

Back to the series. Ah, Yong-gi’s Daddy is actually Mr. Rich, Powerful and Influential himself! He was the result of an affair Rich, Powerful and Influential men like Daddy usually have. Thus, this makes Yong-gi and Rich B*tch blood siblings.

Can you already see the complications that will occur soon?

In-jung & Su-hwan: I love you, you love me, but you’re married. Bummer.

Bodily harm: ‘Look at me like that again and I’ll whack you with my cello.’

Yong-gi & In-jung: I was once heartbroken and will do anything to protect a new romantic relationship but the man vying for your affections is technically my bro-in-law. How now?

And so, the plot thickens.

As much as I love KSW, I can’t help but wonder why he’s always choosing those tear-jerker melodrama type of series… I would have preferred to see him in funny comedies like “Love So Divine” or “My Tutor Friend”.
Why can’t they produce a nice rom-com for KSW?

okay, just now was my first time watching the drama from start to end.
haha, ahh, it got me addicted!
    what a conflict!
isn’t it hard to get together with a married man!
come on, it’s so obvious that she’ll end up with KSW. or maybe not…. (thinking about how tragic the ending of What Happened in Bali is)

anyway, i dont hate KSS in this drama. i don’t know why >_<
    but like what you’ve said,
his wife is totally a b*tch!

hey, thats the girl who acted in “fashion 70s” with Joo Jin mo … wasn’t very impressed with her there, her character was plain in that drama, though i don’t know bout this. that time when she acted in fashion 70s they say it was her first drama after pledging retirement from the drama world…

good stuff that kbs world is airing current drama with eng subs, definitely a plus point for k-drama fans.

    Where are u from ? ; )

  • December 27, 2007 at 11:45 pm

Kim su-sung’s hairdo is a mushroom all rite!

    Thanks, Champong !

  • December 27, 2007 at 7:33 pm

    Yay, thanks Champong!

The censorship board can snip all they want, we’ve got the internet. Nyeh, nyeh, nyeh…

  • December 27, 2007 at 5:43 pm

What’s with Kim Sung Su’s hair? It looks like a mushroom on his head.

  • December 27, 2007 at 5:35 pm

champong: Hey thanks for the link! You are amazing. Can even find the link of the clip of whatever we want to watch.

Maybe the kissing scene took 10 hours to film because it was complicated – in an elevator (small space) and all, plus they showed the elevator moving. The scene wasn’t that great, but it’s one of the hotter Korean drama kisses i’ve seen, and i’ve seen some pretty lame ones. 😉

Bad Love is quite fast paced, that’s why it draws me. So much has happened in the first episode itself.

Hmmm…i think the cello girl will end up with oppa Kwon Sang-woo. =)

  • December 27, 2007 at 1:39 pm

I caught the first ep & I’m eagerly awaiting ep two too !

The part where Kim Su-sung’s cter called the girl “insanely beautiful” made my hair stand on ends. And the wifey with her afro hairdo made me cringe. That aside, the drama looks promising

If it’s any consolation, I missed the opening kissing scene too. Was it really that good and took 10hrs to film?

I read somewhere the energizer bunny was supposed to star in this. But he passed on it because he was busy with his world tour while they were filming. Does anyone know if he was supposed to play KSW or KSS’ role ?

Hate to admit this but i am turning into a bona fide k drama addict !

  • December 27, 2007 at 1:29 pm

The kissing scene is at the beginning of the first episode. HOT STUFF!!

I think the show is lame. But i couldn’t help but be sucked in when they show tears streaming down Kim Sung-su’s beautiful face…GAAAAAHH! that desperate, broken look in his eyes…HEAVEN HELP ME am I becoming a drama addict?!!?

  • December 27, 2007 at 11:12 am

waaa..alreadi started? didnt even kno KBSWorld is gona show! is it on like everyday?

  • December 26, 2007 at 5:26 pm

    Hi doralee,

Yes Bad Love is on KBS World @ channel 303 Astro!!!

    Yes it has subtitles. =)

I caught the second half of the first episode, and it’s quite interesting!

  • December 26, 2007 at 5:07 pm
