JYP can’t believe Whitney’s gone, and he misses her…

How can I not post an entry of this when i saw JYP’s (Park Jin-Young) tweet on Whitney Houston.

JYP is the CEO and founder of JYP Entertainment and and has seen huge success in grooming young singers such as Park Ji-yoon, G.O.D., Noel, Rain and The Wonder Girls.

The music mogul, producer, entertainer and mentor to many successful k-pop stars gave secrets on how to be a good singer by learning and observing Whitney Houston.

Here’s what he tweeted:

If I gather all the advices that I give in K pop star, it means let’s learn form Whitney Houston. She always

1. sings with a loose body as if she doesn’t really care,

2. pronounces all the words naturally as if she’s talking,

3. sings with a very small voice in the middle of the song,

4. hits the notes with the right pitch from the start of each note,

5. sings high notes by resonating her head with her body and throat loose and her shoulders dropped,

6. never wrinkles her face to the side when hitting the high notes,

7. always breathes in between words and make the air flow while singing.

JYP further adds:
When K pop star contestants came to JYP for training, the 1st thing they did was watch this video clip. All the artists in JYP were trained based on this clip too. Can’t believe she’s gone. I miss her so much. Now my favorite male singer and my favorite female singer have both left this world…

This is the video clip that JYP lets his protégées watch when he trains them!

  • I just find it funny that he used this particular video to give the contestants tips about singing naturally (e.g. him asking to observe how she did not tense her shoulders while hitting the high notes, etc.), when this particular performance by Whitney Houston has long been confirmed to be lip-synched. So perhaps her body language might have been a clue instead actually.
