Fans of Choi Siwon raise US$6,500 for West Africa
Choi Siwon is a huge influence. The 25-year-old’s fans from all over the world raised US$6,500 (RM20,500) for West Africa recently.
On his birthday, the Super Junior member encouraged fans to directly donate or purchase 3RD WAVE’s IGNITE: 1040 album. All proceeds is channeled to a cause that is championed by 3RD WAVE.
FOR A CAUSE: Siwon uses his star power for good works
In 2003, 3RD WAVE — a contemporary Christian band based in Seoul — spearheaded a medical relief program that aids those in need of complicated surgical procedures. The effort is in collaboration with the Abidjan International Ministry and Food for the Hungry.
However, surgeries in Africa through the project were only possible from 2009 onwards.
US and African medical professionals are planning to perform over 100 surgeries in August 2012.
Johnny Lee, founder/producer of 3RD WAVE says that the goal is to raise over US$10,000 (RM31, 558) to provide life-saving surgeries to those in the Ivory Coast. He also adds this about the fans’ contribution: “What an honor to bless people in need and to make a real difference in people’s lives.”
3RD WAVE consists of K-pop stars Brian Joo (Fly to the Sky), Choi Siwon (Super Junior) & Alexander Lee Eusebio (formerly of U-KISS).
