[Event Coverage] The Battleship Island Actors and Director Paralyses Pavilion and Surrounding Areas

Three of the main actors from The Battleship Island (군함도) – Hwang Jung Min, So Ji Sub, Song Joong Ki and director Ryu Seung Wan graced the main entrance of Pavilion KL today, on their Star Tour in conjunction with the release of the movie in Malaysia, slated to be in theaters starting this August 17.

Fans had lined up in front of the main entrance of the popular shopping centre as early as 10am to get a closer look of the stars, and near 7pm, the main entrance and surrounding areas were swamped with fans, passerbys and mall visitors. At almost 730 in the evening, the stars walked the red carpet to the sounds of cheers and screaming fans. With the help of several big screens around Pavilion, fans were able to see the stars strutting and on the stage, through the live feed, even from afar.

“This is the first time for all of us to be here in Malaysia and we are honored to see the fans here tonight. Don’t forget to catch the movie!” said Ryu Seung Wan, impressed by the reception of fans on their visit. Song, and So were playful as they kept posing for the fans, while throwing hearts and waving to the crowd. Hwang also looked overwhelmed when the fans started chanting his name when it was his turn to speak.

The film tells the story of 3 men devising an escape from Hashima Island, or nicknamed as The Battleship Island due to the island’s resemblance of a war vessel. Released on July 26 in South Korea, the film received the highest viewership in such a short period – with 970,000 viewers on opening day, it was the first time for a film to garner almost 1,000,000 during the premier night in Korea.
