Love Story About Unemployed Journalist and Celebrity Prosecutor is South Korea’s Best TV Export Yet

South Korea’s most anticipated show of the season is premiering exclusively on Rakuten Viki today.  ‘While You Were Sleeping’, is a modern fantasy-romance about a star prosecutor (played by Lee Jong Suk) and an unemployed journalist (played by Suzy), who develops the power to foretell bad events that are about to happen in the immediate future.

“‘Korean dramas have become increasingly popular these past few years, especially with the rising popularity of K-Pop boy groups like BTS, who recently won the Top Social Artist Award at the Billboard Music Awards,” said Clara Kim, Communications Manager at Rakuten Viki. “‘While You Were Sleeping’ is positioned to become the biggest K-drama hit of this year, and we’re seeing an unprecedented level of engagement  from our fans on just the trailers alone.”

On Viki’s Facebook account, ongoing campaigns related to ‘While You Were Sleeping’ has already garnered more than 882k total reach, with more than 190k views for short videos and trailers.

‘While You Were Sleeping’ is written by Park Hye Ryun, who is no stranger to the international zeal for K-drama hits. She has already worked on wildly successful hits like ‘Dream High’ (2011) with Suzy and ‘I Hear Your Voice’ (2013) and ‘Pinocchio’ (2014), which both starred Lee Jong Suk as the male lead.

This Viki Exclusive premieres today, September 27th, on Rakuten Viki’s web and mobile apps (Android and iOS) with support for connected TV apps like Chromecast, Apple TV, Roku, Fire TV, Android TV, and Samsung Smart TV. It will be available in the Americas, Europe, Middle East, India and Oceania, with Episodes One and Two (two 1-hour length episodes) available for free streaming for all users.
