Embassy of the Republic of Korea to host Korean Film Festival 2018

Following last year’s positive response, the Korean Film Festival, organised by the Embassy of the Republic of Korea, is proud to embark on another mission of introducing the diverse flavours of Korean cinema to Malaysia audiences, from 27-30 September at GSC Mid Valley.

What makes this year’s film festival special is that screenings will be held in Malaysia’s first cinema LED screen at GSC Mid Valley. This aims to showcase and promote Korea’s creative content via its cutting edge technology of Samsung Onyx Cinema LED screen by providing the best cinematic experience to movie-goers.

2018 has been an eventful year for Korea with the successful staging of the PyeongChang Winter Olympics and the debut of the joint North and South women’s ice hockey team. To celebrate these momentous events, a timely and well-curated movie line-up with 5 titles including Run-Off, which depicts the formation of the South Korean woman’s national ice hockey team and Dong Ju – The Portrait of a Poet that gives a glimpse into the Korean independence movement by charting the life of poet Yun Dong-ju during the Japanese occupation.


Not forgetting the animation strand of Korean cinema, Green Days: Dinosaur and I, which was nominated at the 2011 Annecy International Animated Film Festival – one of the four international animated film festivals– illustrates a coming-of-age story of a Korean high school girl in the 1970s voiced by K-drama sweetheart Park Shin-hye. Detective K: Secret of the Lost Island, one of Korea’s action-comedy series, brings audience on a fun adventure to crack down the counterfeit silver bullion in Joseon. Lastly, The Face Reader sees the introduction of the ancient art of physiognomy through a stellar line-up featuring Lee Jung-jae, Kim Hye-Soo, Song Kang-ho, Lee Jong-Suk and Cho Jung-Seok.


All film screenings are free and open to public from 27 to 30 September in GSC Mid Valley. To redeem the free tickets, present a printout or a screenshot on mobile device of any photos or articles about this Festival in any publication, online postings from the official media platforms or GSC digital channels and get TWO complimentary tickets from the ticketing counters of the GSC Mid Valley. Redemption starts from 20 September onwards and will be on first-come-first-serve basis while tickets last.
