[Event Coverage] The Rose rocks out during We Rose You in KL

Korean indie rock band The Rose rocked Kuala Lumpur during their first concert in Malaysia as part of their We Rose You Live Tour, organised by MyMusicTaste.

Fans queued up hours before the show started at 7.30pm on 7 December, and they went wild when Woosung, Dojoon, Hajoon and Jaehyung hit the stage.
While we were unfamiliar with the group before the show, we emerged as new fans of this talented quartet who debuted in 2017 with “Sorry”.
Things kicked off with hits “I.L.Y” and “Insomnia”, and the group covered The Beatles’ “Hey Jude” and The Script’s “Breakeven”.

Leader, guitarist and frontman Woosung showcased his impressive stage presence and vocals, alternating between sexy and cute, driving Black Roses (their fans) wild with his aegyo. During the concert, he performed his solo songs, “Face” and “Moon”.

Keyboardist, guitarist and vocalist Dojoon also showed off his vocal chops throughout, with some impressive falsettos. He also sang a cover of James Bay’s “The River”.

Bassist and sub-vocalist Jaehyung performed a duet with drummer Hajoon, as both played guitar and serenaded the crowd with Before You Exit’s “Soldier.” The tall maknae and visual drove the girls in his corner wild, as he interacted with the crowd, shooting them bright smiles. Drummer and rapper Hajoon’s vocals were also a pleasant surprise – we look forward to hearing more from him.

All the members of The Rose spoke English to the crowd, with English-speaking members Woosung and Dojoon taking the lead, cracking jokes, and saying how happy they were to finally be in hot weather, away from Korea’s cold winter.
Woosung also said the Malaysian fans were the second loudest at cheering, compared to other countries.

A few lucky fans received polaroids of the boys after a lucky draw where The Rose called out ticket numbers from different sections.
They ended the two-hour show with “Sorry” and their latest hit, “Red”, to the screams of ‘encore!’ from the crowd. Their vocals were on point – as if they’d eaten their CDs!
Before they left, they took a picture with the crowd, with all members draped in the Malaysian national flag, the Jalur Gemilang.
We hope to see them back in Malaysia soon!
