#WeGoTwogether To…THAILANDwith Lee Seung-gi and Jasper Liu

Twogether has made its way to the Netflix Top 10 daily rankings in over 5 countries which proves that there is no better duo to travel the region with than Asian superstars Lee Seung-gi and Jasper Liu. We’ve watched them trek across Indonesia, Thailand and Nepal and let’s face it – the itch to travel is real!

The pair reminds us that the best part about going on a holiday is experiencing different cultures and cuisines, and beautiful sceneries that will act like food for the soul. On the other hand, the worst part is the planning – working around tight budgets, endless choice of activities and the strap for time!

We’re already halfway through 2020 and many of us have yet to make time for a getaway. With travel still restricted around the world, what better time to sit down and plan out your holidays in advance by taking a page out of Jasper and Seung-gi’s itinerary, courtesy of their lovely fans.

#WeGoTwogether To: Bangkok, Thailand

Seung-gi and Jasper are given THB 14,000 (RM1,929) to spend on their first day in Bangkok. The two land in Don Mueang International Airport and speed off to their first challenge in Ram Buttri, an up-and-coming street located behind Khao San Road.

1. Ram Buttri

This hidden gem is where the next challenge lies for Seung-gi and Jasper as they go head-to-head with tourists around the area. Tourists will choose from a menu of games ranging from Water Bottle Flip challenge, JENGA and Beer Pong, and compete with the two stars. If Seung-gi and Jasper win the games three times in a row, they are able to earn a meal and a clue about their fan’s location.

Tourists from all over the world visit Ram Buttri, a one-lane street filled with street vendors selling massages, souvenirs, food and pretty much everything and anything that you can imagine. During the night, you can find pop-up bars including ones inside a jeep where the bartender serves you right out of the vehicle window.

2. ARTBOX Night Market

Seung-gi and Jasper make their way to ARTBOX, a trendy container night market where you’ll find some of Bangkok’s street food offerings, vintage finds, handmade accessories and home décor. The market is permanently located in Chuvit Garden, located between the Asok and Nana BTS Skytrain Stations and it is open daily from 4PM to midnight.

Find the man with a beard, the owner and face of Golden Axe Throw Club where you can release your frustrations by throwing axes for THB 220 (RM30) per game. In the series, we find out that Jasper is a master as he swings and wins the game at the end – impressive!

The duo also performs the theme song to Twogether, a song written by Seung-gi with Jasper on the guitar. Sing along to ‘Gonna Be All Right’ with Seung-gi and Jasper here.

After a taxing journey throughout the streets of Bangkok, it is finally time for some shut eye at Arun Residence, a delightful 3-star hotel overlooking the Chao Phraya River, the river of Kings. A river intertwined within the city is the lifeline of Bangkok with approximately 50,000 ferry commuters each day.

The drive from ARTBOX to the hotel will take another THB 220 (RM30) while the room is priced at THB 3,512 (RM484).

3. Damnoen Saduak Floating Market

Damnoen Saduak Floating Market is the most popular floating market in Thailand where tourists can experience the bygone lifestyle of the Thai people who maintain the tradition. It is quite a journey as it is located over an hour out of the city of Bangkok so it is best to arrange for a day tour, which you can find on Klook, for RM168 per person.

Hop on a long-tail boat and glide down the narrow canals among small wooden houses where you can find merchants selling Thai food, snacks, knick knacks and fishing hats.

#WeGoTwogether To: Chiang Mai, Thailand

The competition heats up in Chiang Mai, known as the ‘Rose of the North’,  as the duo will now go against each other and only the winning star will get to meet their fan.

Starting with the essentials, Seung-gi and Jasper split the allowance of THB 4, 400 (RM 606) ahead of the battle. The THB 500 (RM69) taxi ride from Chiang Mai International Airport to Lisu Lodge, an eco-friendly lodge that is part of a community run project on a mission to conserve the natural heritage of the Lisu hill tribes of northern Thailand. A night’s stay overlooking the lushes fields is priced at THB 2,000 (RM 276).

You can get around Chiang Mai with motorbikes and weave around the hectic traffic conditions for THB 300 (RM41) a day.

1. Grand Canyon Water Park

Chiang Mai’s Grand Canyon Water Park is built out of an abandoned limestone quarry that has been filled naturally by monsoon rains. It is a popular swimming spot because of its bright blue waters and high cliffs that’s great for diving. Located around 20 minutes outside of the city of Chiang Mai, the waterpark offers a series of activities including slides, ziplines, wakeboarding and water biking.

Seung-gi and Jasper go neck and neck first with water biking – the first person to make it from one end to the other will get the opportunity to decide if they want to jump off a cliff that is 15 meters high or 8 meters high.

Jasper surprisingly picks up the skill on his first try so Seung-gi musters up the courage to jump 15 meters off a cliff.

Entrance Fee: THB 150 (RM21)

Seung-gi also meets a kind local who offers to pay for his meal. In return, Seung-gi sings his song ‘Return’, which is very fitting.

A meal is simply not enough for the Korean star as he hops over to Sa-Ard Fish Ball Noodle Shop next door for their signature egg noodle, Bami Haeng, for just THB 60 (RM8). Like all of us, we all need a bit of dessert to fully complete a meal – so Seung-gi gets THB 20 (RM3) ice-cream, yum!

Meanwhile, Jasper tries his first Anchan Noodle, noodles that are tinted in blue from butterfly pea flowers that come with tender pork.

After a fulfilling lunch, Seung-gi and Jasper race off to Chiang Mai University for a game of sepak takraw, the same university where their fan graduated from. Seung-gi’s team comes out on top!

As champion, he gets first dibs on the next location. Chiang Mai has various activities for tourists to dive into for a wholesome experience of the city. The duo are tasked with creating a present for their fan.

Seung-gi chooses cooking, Jasper tries his hand at painting!

3. Zabb E Lee Thai Cooking School

Zabb E Lee means ‘very delicious’ in Thai and the cooking school is one of the top rated activities to do in Chiang Mai. Pakawan Kunasri, or better known as Ann, teaches Seung-gi how to make signature Thai dishes – pineapple fried rice and pad thai. Just like a professional Thai chef, Seung-gi shows off his chopping skills and prepares everything perfectly.

Check out the Zabb E Lee Cooking School website to learn more about the different courses they offer.
