Space Sweepers : These misfits just might save the world!? Song Joong-ki, Kim Tae-ri, Jin Sun-kyu, Yoo Hai-jin, and Richard Armitage! Characters Full of Unparalleled Charm!
“Victory” that Preserves the Value of “Together”!
Space Sweepers, a Human Space Sci-Fi
They are colleagues and practically family, but they each have too much personality to stay inside a tiny spaceship together 24/7: On board spaceship Victory are its crew members with terrible teamwork that could break up the group despite their strong individual skills and the shared goal of making money. A card game would be broken up with the table flipped over for a measly dollar and the most trivial issue would escalate into an argument and even a physical fight, making the crew seem like a ragtag team, but their individual personality and charm bouncing off each other is part of the biggest fun of Space Sweepers.
Pilot Tae-ho, played by Song Joong-ki, is highly gifted in what he does despite his seeming clumsiness. Captain Jang, played by Kim Tae-ri, is the youngest in the crew, but is also the smartest, and acts as the strategist for the team. Engineer Tiger Park, played by Jin Sun-kyu, is a kind soul and the upholder of moral standards in the crew. Bubs, played by Yoo Hai-jin, is a harpoon-throwing robot that was brought along by Captain Jang.
All the more intriguing as they don’t seem to naturally fit together, the charming cast planned their movements through rehearsals and used their imagination for the invisible, vast outer space based on the pre-visualization materials provided by the production crew, and the special bond that they built throughout this process takes the unique and entertaining ensemble performance to new heights.
Meanwhile, Richard Armitage, who plays Sullivan, the de-facto ruler of space who created the space paradise UTS for select citizens, contributed to the compelling portrayal of space set in 2092 where people of various national backgrounds live together by adding another layer of chemistry with the rest of the cast despite the film being his very first Korean project.
Ordinary people with no superpowers or average workers with no wealth—a “victory” that these people achieve by working together is different from a victory against a supervillain that is founded on destruction. Living in a world divided into top and bottom that breeds discrimination, the crew in Space Sweepers aims for a victory that restores and preserves the value of “together,” which allows no class divide and recognizes that everyone is precious. The cast also put their heart and soul into telling that story with their exceptional teamwork and chemistry.
