Interview with the casts of mystery-thriller k-drama, MOUSE!

Latest k-drama, MOUSE airs on tvN, every Thursday and Friday, 9.15pm. The mystery-thriller series starring Lee Seung-gi, Lee Hee-joon, Park Ju-hyun and Kyung Soo-jin was inspired by the Incheon Elementary School murder case in 2017. Mouse follows Jeong Ba-reum (Lee Seung-gi), a steadfast police officer, whose life changes when he encounters a psychopathic serial killer. This drives him and his partner Go Moo-chi (Lee Hee-joon) to unearth the truth behind psychopathic behaviours.

We had a chance to have a short Q&A session with the casts, thanks to our friends at tvN. The casts have something to say about the drama, read on below.^^

Lee Seung-gi

Q : Firstly, please tell us why did you choose to take up your role in the drama?

Lee Seung-gi : Firstly, I felt that the drama’s script was very well-written. If we see a good drama, we often say that it’s like an American drama. Do you think that this is even better than an American drama? It is meticulously written and very sophisticated along with the different possibilities that are plausible to the end, this made me feel that the script was very well written and therefore I decided to do this drama.

Lee Hee-jun : I was also very impressed by the meticulous script. Because Lee Seung-gi said that he would do it, that’s why I decided to do this drama.

Lee Seung-gi : I also decided to do this because Hee-jun decided to do it, Ju-hyun decided to do it, Soo-jin decided to do it as well.

Park Joo-hyun : My senior actors are actors that I have really wanted to work with for a long time, and the script was very good. I finished reading the script in a single sitting. I thought to myself, I would be thankful to be able to participate in the filming of such a great production.

Kyung Soo-jin : As my fellow actors mentioned earlier, the well-written script was a factor. I had also worked with Director Choi Jun-bae in a different production, <Come and Hug Me>. That was also a very detailed production. Therefore, I trusted that the well-written script would be very well executed and decided to do this drama.

Lee Hee-jun

Q : What did you do in order to better understand and act out your role?

Lee Seung-gi : There was nothing.

Park Joo-hyun : Next question.

Lee Seung-gi : I worked hard reading the script.

Park Joo-hyun : I also worked hard reading the script.

Kyung Soo-jin : I think because the main subject of the drama is about a psychopath, I watched documentaries about psychopaths, shows about current affairs like <Unanswered Questions>. In the script, there was something about the seven deadly sins, and because I am not familiar with that, so I studied a bit about it, and watch shows that regarding it.

Park Joo-hyun

Q : We are curious about the atmosphere at the set during filming, were there any fun incidents on set?

Lee Seung-gi : The atmosphere was great.

Lee Hee-jun : We became close and it was very enjoyable, but because we started filming in the very cold winter, we were even rained on in the bitter cold. There were those kinds of days.

Park Joo-hyun : When we were filming that scene, Hee-jun said this..

Lee Hee-jun : Joo-hyun, tell them.

Park Joo-hyun : “Do you still want to be an actor”, “Do you think that you could do this for another 20 years?” That’s how much we filmed in the cold. Even so, that day of filming was really fun, don’t you think so?

Lee Seung-gi : I thought my toes were going to fall off. I really thought that my toes were going to fall off. The rain…

Park Joo-hyun : Really. It was so cold.

Lee Seung-gi : Because the drama starts in fall, we were dressed in fall fashion. Winter has now passed and we have missed the period where we can dress warmly on set, because spring has come and we have to work hard while wearing thinner clothes. Among us, it was very fun. This winter was especially cold, last year was quite warm. Because this winter was especially cold and we shot many scenes in the bitter cold, I feel we encouraged each other more during filming.

Park Joo-hyun : Actually, because it was really cold, it snowed a lot, and there were many wonderful scenes that we shot in the snow.

Lee Seung-gi : We didn’t go overseas, and saved our production budget, and shot our drama well.

Kyung Soo-jin

Q : Could you let our overseas viewers know why they should watch <Mouse> in 5 characters?

Lee Hee-jun : 5 characters?

Lee Seung-gi : If we say it in 5 characters, will they want to watch?

Park Joo-hyun : Intense and exciting.

Lee Seung-gi : Intense and exciting.

Kyung Soo-jin : I think it’s exciting and intense.

Park Joo-hyun : I think that’s a good idea.

Lee Hee-jun : Meticulously structured.

Lee Seung-gi : Full of suspense.

Lee Hee-jun : Lee Seung-gi appears.

Kyung Soo-jin : Kyung Soo-jin appears.

Kyung Soo-jin : It’s getting covered.

Lee Seung-gi : Full of popular stars. It’s really like the 90s, full of popular stars.

Q : Finally, could you say something to your overseas fans who are waiting for the drama?

Lee Seung-gi : If you watch this, I hope that when you see a good drama, you will exclaim “Wow, it’s like a Korean Drama”. To make this happen, we are working hard to film a good drama.  I hope you will enjoy the drama, and stay with us and watch the drama to the end. I hope you will catch the first episode as well!

Lee Hee-jun : It’s a well-written thriller where all the evidence and clues are well woven together, without any fakes. I hope you will be interested in our drama, and I believe that it will be a very exciting drama.

Park Joo-hyun : I think that it’s a meeting between a very well-written script and a very meticulous director, and that meeting has produced this final product. I think it will be as exciting as we have mentioned, so I hope that you will watch it!

Kyung Soo-jin : Don’t miss the first episode of this detailed and cool drama!
