iQiyi Unveils Main Poster For Its Original K-series JIRISAN
The imagery hints at Gianna Jun and Ju Ji-hoon’s intertwining destinies
iQiyi today released the main poster for its Original K-series Jirisan, starring Gianna Jun and Ju Ji-hoon,and created by director Lee Eung-bok (Descendants of The Sun, Guardian: The Lonely and Great God) and writer Kim Eun-hee (Signal, Kingdom). The poster depicts Jun and Ju standing in amid snowfall in the mountains, against contrasting backgrounds of red and blue. The imagery hints at the series’ story, which will see the pair unravel the hidden secrets of Jirisan mountain. Jirisan is set for an exclusive global premiere on iQiyi on October 23rd in a simulcast with Korea.
The series puts Jirisan mountain, which is seen as a source comfort by many Koreans, at the heart of its story, by highlighting the many challenges park rangers face, including floods, fires, and rescue missions. Jun and Ju play two such park rangers, and the main poster portrays the chilling and gloomy atmosphere of the environment they work in. The pair’s expressions – Jun’s steely gaze and Ju’s seeming sadness – suggest the weight of the mysteries they will unravel in the series. The poster’s accompanying taglines, which translate to “A place I can’t climb again after that day” and “A place I can’t break away from after that day”, point to Jun and Ju’s entangled destinies in dealing with what lies in wait at the mountains.
iQiyi also released new stills for the series, which show Gianna Jun’s embodiment of her character. In contrast to her usual elegance, Jun is seen in pragmatic park ranger gear, eager and ready to save lives. Nonetheless, she still retains her poise and charm – this is especially shown in the still of her standing in pouring rain with a helmet-mounted torch, appearing like a beacon of hope in troubled times. Jun perfectly channels the strength and professionalism of park rangers, with the production team sharing, “We hope viewers will look forward to Gianna’s great presence on the grand stage of Jirisan.”
Meanwhile, writer Kim Eun-hee sees Jirisan as a land of hope. From the believers of the Donghak religion of the late Joseon period, to the independent warriors during the Japanese colonial period, many have sought refuge at this mountain. Even today, many people still make their own pilgrimages to the mountain, fleeing the loneliness and hopelessness of modern city life. Inspired by the breadth of less travelled environments in Jirisan, the series focuses on both the people who seek hope and those looking for victims in the wild, making for a thrilling yet heartwarming story.
Jirisan follows the team of national park rangers who are responsible for search and rescue on Jirisan. In the course of their work, experienced ranger (Gianna Jun) and rookie ranger (u Ji-hoon) discover the deeper secrets of the peak. The iQiyi Original K-series will exclusively simulcast with Korea on October 23rd on the iQiyi International app and iQ.com worldwide.
