Spotify 2021 Wrapped Revealed: BTS tops as Singapore’s most streamed artist
Unveiling 2021 Top Lists and New Personalised Features to Discover Your Favourite Songs, Podcasts, Artists, Albums and More
If 2020 was the year that flipped the world on its head, 2021 was the year that we got used to seeing things upside down. With “normal” thrown out the window, we embraced the unknown and championed all of the things that make each of us unique. Spotify’s 2021 Wrapped is a celebration of this — the millions of weird and wonderful ways to listen and live in a world that continues to keep us on our toes.
Spotify is today unveiling its annual 2021 Wrapped campaign and personalized user experience inspired by just that. At the same time, we’re unveiling the top artists, albums, songs, playlists and podcasts from the creators that helped soundtrack the year for more than 381 million users worldwide.
So, how did Singapore listen this year? Here’s what we found:
Showing this global phenomenon is here to stay, K-pop group BTS is Singapore’s most streamed artist in 2021 for the second year in a row. Their albums BE and Love Yourself 結 ‘Answer’ are in the top most streamed albums of the year, as armies of local fans couldn’t get enough of their top
recordings Butter and Dynamite. Following BTS was Canadian pop icon Justin Bieber as second most streamed artist with his hit album Justice and catchy tune Peaches (featuring Daniel Caesar & Giveon) ranking top 10 locally. Coming in third was American superstar Taylor Swift.
Making his way to Singapore’s top most streamed local artists list for the first time is Benjamin Kheng. Mainstayer JJ Lin held his position as the top streamed local artist, followed by Gentle Bones who climbed to second.
Mandopop held its spot as one of the most popular genres in Singapore. The Taiwanese “King of Mandopop” Jay Chou was the fourth most streamed artist in 2021, making it to Singapore’s top artists list for five consecutive years. Not far behind him was homegrown artist JJ Lin, who ranked seventh most streamed artist in Singapore.
In the podcast sphere, the education genre came out on top as the most streamed category followed by comedy and then society & culture. Malay podcasts gained popularity as OKLETSGO, The Podcast and MALAM SERAM clinched three out of the top five spots.
Starting today, eligible users can also access their personalized Wrapped experience exclusively in the Spotify mobile app (iOS and Android). To help users commemorate the ways they have embraced the unknown and defined their own “normal”, Spotify releases new personalised Wrapped features, including –
● 2021: The Movie – A video montage of your top played songs paired with iconic scenes from cinema in a movie that’s all about you.
● Your Audio Aura – A creative mashup of your mood, tempo, liveliness, and even artist/album art to visualize your audio “aura.”
● Playing Cards – An interactive data-based game of truth and lie to discover how well you know your own audio habits and challenge a friend.
● Wrapped 2021: Blend – Tapping into the new Blend feature launched this year, see how your 2021 music taste matches up with friends, stream your blended playlist and share the results on social.
● Even more shareability – Share your Wrapped cards directly on social media, including TikTok for a limited time.
