CJ ENM also revealed that the world’s No.1 K-Pop awards, initially known as Mnet ASIAN MUSIC AWARDS, has been rebranded as MAMA AWARDS. The rebrand carries the award show’s ambition to expand from its existing presence in Asia to encompass global K-POP fans positioning itself as the World’s No.1 K-Pop Awards. This is in-line with the company’s vision and history of expanding the presence of Korean entertainment across the globe.
This year, MAMA AWARDS will be held at Kyocera Dome Osaka across two days. The venue boasts a capacity of 40,000 and is well-known amongst K-pop fans for hosting top-notch K-pop shows
This is the first for MAMA AWARDS to host the show for two consecutive days. MAMA AWARDS will have in-store stages that continue the 23-year K-Pop legitimacy as well as special performances that can be seen only here.
Hyun Soo Kim, Head of Music Entertainment at CJ ENM, remarked, “MAMA has continued to explore new possibilities beyond the boundaries of Asia, and in the process, I can say with confidence that it has served as an outpost that pushed many K-pop artists to the global stage. This year’s show will continue to solidify our presence as the World’s NO. 1 K-pop awards that provide differentiated values and experiences of K-pop to the world.”
MAMA’s origin traces back to 1999, then known as the Mnet KM Music Festival(MKMF). It later rebranded and renamed to Mnet Asian Music Awards in 2009 as it expanded its footprints across the globe. MAMA continued to make history as the pioneer in the K-pop industry through its outstanding planning, jaw-dropping performances, large scale production and collaboration performances with global acts across the world.
