Two days of incredible music and good vibes at Surf Beach @ Sunway Lagoon
Good Vibes Weekender debuted as the first festival experience under the Good Vibes brand to take place since the pandemic on 23 & 24 September 2022, at Surf Beach @ Sunway Lagoon. Music lovers came from far and wide to experience the stellar lineup of local and international acts performing on Good Vibes’s iconic twin mainstages.
Being the first festival in Malaysia post-pandemic, Good Vibes Weekender presented a stunning mix of heart-thumping music by various artists across the Red and Blue Stages. Kicking off day one on the Red stage was Alex Ungku with his R&B tunes, followed by Claudia, who showcased her new single “Your Gentleman” back on the Blue Stage. Local alternative-rock band Midnight Fusic spread their psychedelic passion to the crowd. Homegrown girl group DOLLA made an entrance with their striking red and black outfits. Surf Mesa got the crowd grooving to his chill originals and remixes, leading the way for UK DJ duo Snakehips. Recognized for their airy vocal unison, London duo Oh Wonder hit the stage with their electro-pop tracks as the night falls. French-Malaysian singer SonaOne along with Joe Flizzow, Malaysia’s top rapper, had everyone bobbing their heads to the catchy rhythms of “Havoc” and “Baek”. The artist invited SonaOne, Yonnyboii, Airliftz, SYA and SENNA on stage to perform his last song “Orang Lain”. Finally, day one came to a close with CL and her terrific performances accompanied by the delighted screams of adoring fans. The queen of Kpop brought more than joy to the ground with her songs such as “5 Stars”, “Dr. Pepper” and “The Baddest Female”.
Day two started off with local indie singer Liesl-Mae serenading the ears with her dreamy vocal followed by the genre-fluid band The Peachskins. Late Night Frequency captured hearts with their tracks which featured saxophone solos on the Blue Stage. Then, singer-songwriter Leaism left the crowd craving more of her playlist which consisted of a mixture of electronic and tropical sounds. With his track “AAA” which garnered over 40 million streams worldwide, NYK had the crowd swaying and vibing to the chill track. Yonnyboii rounded up the homegrown lineups with his charming act on the Red Stage. LA-based DJ Shallou delivered an hour-long set, while British alternative/indie singer-songwriter Beabadoobee took over with her rock playlist and famous track “Coffee”. Appearing with his crew in adorable pink outfits, Pink Sweat$ charmed the crowd with his impeccable voice singing his widely known songs such as “Honesty” and “At My Worst”. Bunga, a local singer and rapper, made a surprise appearance during “I Feel Good” which marked the debut of their collaboration. The two-day festival reached its peak when the long-awaited Kpop sensation Jackson Wang entered the stage after the words “Magic Man” flashed on the screen. The idol lived up to his name as an exceptional artist and wowed the crowd with his singing and dancing skills.
