The single ‘Chill Kill’ is a dance pop track that uniquely unfolds around bold bass movements, string melodies, and dreamy synth and bell sounds. On top of unconventional harmonies, the lyrics tell a story of a relationship turned upside down, characterised by the dual nature of singing for hope while yearning for a loved one in the midst of a relationship that has become filled with imperfections.
Elsewhere, the 10-track album brings together a variety of music and messages, encapsulating Red Velvet’s distinctive identity and essence. The group shows off their signature playful and theatrical melodies on tracks like ‘Knock Knock (Who’s There?)’, ‘Nightmare’, ‘One Kiss’, and ‘Bulldozer’, while showcasing dreamy, softer sounds on ‘Underwater’, ‘Will I Ever See You Again?’, ‘Iced Coffee’, and ‘Wings’. The album closer, ‘Scenery’, is an acoustic ballad comparing cherished memories to paintings of the four seasons. The new album arrives almost a year after the release of their last album, “The ReVe Festival 2022 – Birthday”.
Earlier this year, Red Velvet completed their first European tour “Red Velvet 4th Concert : R to V”, with stops in Paris, Berlin, Amsterdam, and London, where they took over OVO Arena Wembley for their first headline show which earned a five-star rave review from The Guardian. The group also made headlines as the only K-Pop group to perform at Primavera Sound Barcelona 2023.
Red Velvet debuted in 2014 and have attracted fans across the globe with their unique and sophisticated music, with songs like ‘Bad Boy’, ‘Ice Cream Cake’, ‘Russian Roulette’, and more. Their 2019 album “The ReVe Festival: Finale”set the record as the first female K-Pop act to top the iTunes Top Albums Chart in 44 countries, while its main single ‘Psycho’ also hit No. 1 on the Billboard World Digital Song Sales chart. In 2020, they appeared in DreamWorks Animation’s Trolls World Tour film as the K-pop trolls, and participated in the soundtrack song ‘Just Sing’. Their 2021 EP “Queendom” topped Korean and international music charts, most notably iTunes Top Album Charts in 51 countries. “The ReVe Festival 2022 – Feel My Rhythm” achieved half-million seller status with pre-orders, while its follow-up “The ReVe Festival 2022 – Birthday” broke their personal record with over 710,000 pre-orders sold. The group has performed headlining concerts worldwide and were the only K-Pop group to perform at Primavera Sound Barcelona 2023. In addition to group activities, the members – IRENE, SEULGI, WENDY, JOY, and YERI – have participated in solo and unit music projects, and various other activities such as acting, DJing, and MCing, showing their individual charms and talents.
