[Event Coverage] 2024 Suho Concert [SU:HOME] in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
A night of new beginnings and some nostalgia! Last Sunday, on 28th July 2023, Mega Star Arena KL transformed into a haven of music and emotion as Kim Jun-myeon, better known by his stage name Suho, took the stage for Su:Home in Malaysia. This marked a special moment for his fans as Suho embarked on a journey that blended his solo artistry with cherished memories from his time with EXO.
Suho’s set list showcased his versatility as an artist. He opened with “Mayday”, a title track which was released as part of his latest (3rd) solo mini-album, 점선면 (1 to 3) early this year, capturing the attention of the audience with the melancholic guitar riffs. Keeping to the concept of Su:Home, he slowly rose from a bedroom set-up as if he had just awoken for the day. He then followed with “Morning Star,” for a more upbeat and energetic mood. Up next was the hopeful “Grey Suit”, which showcased his soulful vocals and beautiful falsetto notes. My personal favourite from the set list was definitely “Self-Portrait”, which is a hauntingly beautiful song with relatable lyrics depicting lost love. As the night progressed, Suho had multiple outfit changes which were mostly comfy clothing and befitting of the hot weather in Malaysia and his “homely” concept.
The highlight of the night was undoubtedly Suho’s tribute to his EXO days. The segment began with “The First Snow,” a fan favorite that evoked nostalgia and warmth. Suho’s solo rendition brought back memories and the audience responded by singing along loudly to the ballad, bringing tears to his eyes. Suho also then seamlessly transitioned to “Growl,” “Overdose,” and “Monster,” each song energizing the crowd and showcasing his dynamic range.
Throughout the concert, Suho made a concerted effort to connect with his fans. He noticed the dress code of the day (which was yellow!), shared some anecdotes and tried his best to engage in conversations (albeit with slight difficulty as he was trying to converse in English), creating a sense of intimacy. He even remarked on his shorter hairstyle and joked about the “Growl” performance being almost a “legendary moment” as he was panicking and trying to fix his loose pants.
As the concert drew to a close, Suho’s encore and goodbye resonated with the audience. He thanked his fans once again for their support and promised to return, perhaps even with his other members from EXO. It was definitely a night of memorable music and good moments.
