[Event Coverage] Happy With Fan Chants, Kim Sung Kyu Can’t Stop Smiling

Kim Sung Kyu, leader of the group INFINITE performed in front of Malaysian INSPIRIT for two days at Zepp Kuala Lumpur. Organised by D-SHOW, with Offbeat and 43 as promoters, the 2024 KIM SUNG KYU CONCERT [LV3 : Let’s Vacay] Asia Tour in Kuala Lumpur, the 2-day concert was attended by enthusiastic INSPIRIT (INFINITE fandom name) and CITIZEN (Kim Sung Kyu fandom name).

Kim Sung Kyu Can't Stop Smiling While Performing

Fans came in a combination of summer colors – Yellow and Orange, in theme with the poster (of Sung Kyu lounging by the beach in beach attire) and the concert name (Let’s Vacay). As the lights in the hall were dimmed, the 3 big screens on stage shows the bright blue colors of the sea, and sounds of the waves can be heard. A quartet of musicians came on stage, before Kim Sung Kyu himself showed up and emits screams from the fans.


Starting off with “DIVIN'”, “Shine“ and “Ready To Go“, the solo singer captured each and every fans attention with his impeccable vocals from the get go. Greeting the fans in Malay with “Apa Khabar semua, saya Kim Sung Kyu!” (Hello everyone, I am Kim Sung Kyu), further captivated the fans.

“It’s been quite a while since I was here with INFINITE, I’m happy to see my fans in Malaysia again. I’m also nervous performing all my solo songs live here for the first time, so if youbknow the lyrics,  sing with me” said the singer, who is also a musical actor who will be reprising his role as Charlie in Kinky Boots this September.

Continuing on with his next set, starting with “41 days”, then carries on with “Sometimes”, “The Answer”, and “Sentimental”, before proceeding with “Sorry”.

Fans joined in and sang during all the songs, but during “Small Talk” and “60 seconds”, the fans were really loud, it was as if the singer was having a very large group of backing vocals. Sung Kyu can’t hide his happiness as he smiled as he performed. This author was also surprised by how loud it was.

During one of his breaks, he talked about his musicals that he participated in, and asked if the audience have ever seen him in one. Some fans excitedly responded “Yes” and admits that they flew all the way to South Korea to support him. The singer looked so touch and thanked the fans again.

Fans also repeatedly requested for an INFINITE concert in Malaysia, to which he replied “I definitely want to come back to Malaysia and perform for my fans. I will also work something out so that INFINITE can also come here”. Hearing this, the fans cheered full of excitement. Here’s hoping!

Sung Kyu performed a couple more songs, before announcing his final song for the day. Fans were shouting “No”, but all things have to end. Giving thanks to the fans for the love and support, and gratitude for the staff and live band who supplied the awesome music, he performed “It Will Be”, and left the stage, leaving fans wanting more.

As the hall became dark, instead of shouting for Encore, the fans started singing the chorus for “Kontrol” repeatedly. A few minutes passed and the fans were still singing the same verse repeatedly, when the screen on stage lits up and showed a phone ringing. It appears to be Kim Sung Kyu himself, backstage, answering the fans, while also singing the chorus verse together. Moments later, he came on stage and performed the first song for the encore session, “Kontrol”.

Happy with the fans, Sung Kyu asked for the fans to repeat the chorus verse again, thus a duet session happened between INSPIRIT and the lovable singer. “The sound system here is so good, that your voices are loud and clear. I love it!”

The encore continues on with “My Everyday Is You”, before “Reply”, a duet between Sung Kyu and INSPIRIT. Sung Kyu closed the show with “Stuck On”, bowed to the fans, and left the stage. The 4 man band also left the stage, one by one, and what was left for INSPIRIT was a good memory with their favourite singer.
