[Event Coverage] Chen brings fans “Beyond the DOOR”; re-wind to when Chen was in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia for his 2024 fan concert!
At first, it was it was Suho for Su:Home, followed by Chen with Bloom, and then it was even Xiumin for a Brice Road Show. And last but not least, we got to close the year, with Chen’s Beyond the DOOR!
Kuala Lumpur witnessed another night of music and laughter as Chen graced the stage at Mega Star Arena for his highly anticipated 2024 “Beyond the DOOR.” The fan-con, part of Chen’s inaugural solo tour, came on the heels of stops in Seoul and Bangkok, drawing fans from across Malaysia to experience his powerful voice and endearing charisma.
The evening begun with the emotional track “Empty”, from his 4th and latest solo mini-album DOOR, released earlier in May 2024. The song, with its raw and introspective lyrics, set a reflective tone for the evening, but Chen’s resonant voice filled the venue with warmth, ensuring that the atmosphere was far from “empty.”
The DOOR album explored themes of emptiness and fulfillment and tracks such as “Dandelion” and “Remember” showcased his versatility, blending soulful ballads with lyrics that touched fans deeply. Each note he sang seemed to connect with the hearts of his fans who were blessed with an unforgettable experience. He even jazzed up the stage with “I Don’t Even Mind” from his 3rd mini-album.

Beyond the music, Chen’s fan-con also featured some lighthearted moments. One of them was “Chen-llenge,” a fun game segment whereby Chen had to complete lyrics from random songs chosen by his team, which included his own tracks and songs from his fellow EXO members Baekhyun and Xiumin. Fans were in stitches as Chen humorously struggled with some of the lyrics and donned silly costumes whenever he got a wrong answer. The alien costume during the segment became an instant highlight, showcasing Chen’s fun side, as he pretended to be abducted by the alien while singing along to Baekhyun’s Ghost.
Between performances, Chen took the time to share some personal insights about his songwriting process and the things that bring him comfort. This video intermission also gave fans a glimpse into his world (and his new found love of brewing and making coffee art), making the night more meaningful. He also expressed gratitude for the support he has received throughout his career and dedicated “Love You” to his fans.

Chen also serenaded the audience with Don’t Remember (기억하지 말아요) and Shall We? (우리 어떻게 할까요), before closing the night with “Starlight”. He returned with a medley of crowd favourites for the encore with a soul-stirring performance of “Everytime,” the OST from Descendants of the Sun, followed by “Best Luck,” another OST from the hit drama, It’s Okay, That’s Love. The final notes echoed through the arena, leaving fans with a sense of fulfillment and longing for his next visit.

It seemed like Chen also enjoyed his time in Malaysia as his team posted some footage from his time here. We hope he really did and that he will return soon enough and if you miss him already, he released a cover of Ava Max’s Christmas Without You just last week. Do give it a listen!
