[Event Coverage] Stay “UNCHANGED”, Kim Myung Soo

It’s been a year since Kim Myung Soo (fondly known as L) visited Malaysia with his INFINITE bandmates for their Limited Edition in Kuala Lumpur concert, but this time around, he treated his fans ‘OVEPIRIT’ (fandom name) to something way more personal. Mega Star Arena bore witness to the massive wave of nostalgia and love for Kim Myungsoo’s 2026 KIM MYUNGSOO (L) FAN-CON ASIA TOUR <UNCHANGED> in Kuala Lumpur.

And honestly? What an absolute sweetheart of a performer, seriously.

If you weren’t there, you missed out big time. Myung Soo clearly did his homework for this stop. He casually dropped that he actually prepared a brand-new setlist and even fresh choreography just for Malaysian INSPIRITs and OVEPIRITs. Talk about making your fans feel special!

The lights dimmed and the crowd went wild the second the video was shown, minutes before he stepped on stage, kicking things off with INFINITE’s classic track “Way You Are.” His legendary, top-tier visuals had everyone screaming, but it was his super steady live vocals while dancing a full choreography that really stole the show right from the first note. He threw it way back next with “1/3,” giving us a major dose of that golden-era INFINITE nostalgia.

Then came the first talk segment, which quickly turned into pure, hilarious chaos. Myung Soo decided to try out his Malay, and he didn’t just go with the standard textbook greetings. Instead, he dropped a total local bombshell: ”Dah lama tak jumpa korang wei, rindu giler!”

The venue literally erupted. Hearing him add “wei” and “giler” like a true Malaysian was so endearing and felt completely unscripted. He kept the sweet talk going later in the night with “I sayang you” and “I sayang giler you”, leaving the crowd laughing and melting all at the same time. His playful vibe made it feel so natural.

True to the “fan-con” format, the night was packed with fun, interactive games. During a trivia segment, a lucky group of fans managed to answer every single question correctly, making it to the final round to win some exclusive gifts sponsored by Fossil – a brand which Myung Soo is an ambassador of.

But the funniest highlight of the night had to be the “this or that” balance game. One of the questions was whether he’d rather climb up the stairs of KLCC and take the lift down, or take the lift up and walk all the way down the stairs. Naturally, most fans voted for the second option to save his poor knees. But Myung Soo completely shocked everyone by choosing to climb up the stairs. When fans loudly reminded him that KLCC literally has 88 floors, he just laughed it off, playfully arguing that it was about what he himself would choose, not the fans! He even insisted that climbing the stairs sounded like good, fun exercise, for someone like him who enjoys exercising. The face he made left the audience completely speechless and cracking up.

Moving back to the performance, Myung Soo treated KL to “One More Time”, a beautiful track he specially added to the setlist. He then slowed down the tempo with the cozy “Talk To You” before ramping up the energy with the bright, breezy vibes of “Blue Summer” which turned Mega Star Arena into an absolute summer party.

Then came the real tear-jerker moments. He delivered an emotional performance of “My Universe” a standout solo track, before dropping a massive surprise on his fans. He performed “Stay Close”, a completely unreleased song that he revealed will be on his upcoming album. Malaysian OVEPIRIT were lucky to hear a brand new track before the rest of the world, and it made it much more special. And for the longtime, old-school fans, hearing him perform “Heartthrob” (originally by the sub-unit INFINITE F) was an unexpected dream come true.

By the time the encore rolled around, things got wonderfully chaotic. While singing “Memory” and “Love U Like U”, Myung Soo appeared from one of the side doors and  walked straight into the crowd. He was casually signing fans’ albums, grabbing phones for selfies, and throwing out finger hearts. While sections of the floor got a bit messy and disorganized as everyone tried to get close to him, Myung Soo handled it like a pro, smiling and trying his absolute best to interact with as many people as he could reach.

The night officially closed out with “What’s Not to Love” which was honestly the most perfect song title to summarize the entire evening. Before everyone left, he even gave every single fan a personal hi-bye session, letting everyone see those famous dimples up close for one last time.

A huge shoutout to T-rex Studio for inviting us. It was a beautiful night that proved that while his love for his fans remains completely “UNCHANGED,” Kim Myung Soo still finds the best ways to create brand new memories with OVEPIRITs.
