[Event Coverage] An Eargasm Evening With KYUHYUN

Cho Kyuhyun or better known as just KYUHYUN, is a musical actor, television host, and a member of the popular group SUPER JUNIOR. Having been to Malaysia numerous times with SUPER JUNIOR for various concerts and a music video shoot (years ago), this visit marks his first time as a solo artist.

KYUHYUN all smiles with Malaysia fans

“Apa Khabar Kuala Lumpur!” greeted KYUHYUN, after opening the concert with two songs – Restart and Dreaming. “It has been five years since I was last here… right?” asked KYUHYUN in regards to the last Super Show in Malaysia. “No!!!” answered the fans, as they explained that the last time the artist was here was in 2022. “Sorry, my memory is getting worse” apologised the singer, before proceeding to ask the fans whether he’s been in Kuala Lumpur by himself, in which the fans answered “No” – well the fans know him better than himself I guess 😉

As with any shows with SUPER JUNIOR, any sub-units or solo shows, there was never a dry moment as the fans would laugh and cry along with the artist, as they are known for their very good showmanship. KYUHYUN’s show is another good example as the singer’s conversation with the fans and his occasional teasing made the fans enjoy every single minute of the 2 hour show.

KYUHYUN entertained fans with his wit and humor

“For those of you who has never been to a SUPER JUNIOR show, and is here seeing me for the first time, I am very sorry. My songs are slow and sad, it makes your heart break, and constantly missing someone, although the Kuala Lumpur I know is always in a fighting spirit. But just for tonight, give up the fighting spirit and just enjoy the ballad songs” explained the artist before proceeding with heart breaking songs, and laughter during ments.

KYUHYUN also amazed fans with his Mandarin cover of Eric Chou’s Ni Hao Bu Hao (How Have You Been?). He also performed a medley of Chinese songs from his previous Super Show such as “Zhi Shao Hai You Ni” (At Least I Still Have You), “Yuan Liang Wo” (Forgive Me), and “Xin Bu Liao Qing” (New Endless Love).

Other than Mandarin songs, KYUHYUN also showcased his vocals by singing a beloved Malay song, Bunga-bunga Cinta, originally sung by Misha Omar. The original singer praised KYUHYUN saying “Okay, I fainted. I can’t stop smiling. It won my heart”.

KYUHYUN mesmerised the crowd with his beautiful voice throughout the concert. “Other than being a member of SUPER JUNIOR, I am also a musical actor” said KYUHYUN as a list of his musicals were shown on the screen. “Many fans didn’t get to watch my musicals as it is only in Korea, so I would like to sing one song from my latest musical for you.” KYUHYUN then treated fans with Destiny (a song from his musical Ben-Hur).

After singing ballads, KYUHYUN knows that it’s not complete without showcasing “Dancer Kyu” and delighted fans as he performed a medley of SUPER JUNIOR songs – Devil, Black Suit, Sorry Sorry before donning a light blue suit coat and danced cutely to Yoasobi’s Idol.

The night reached an emotional height as a VCR of KYUHYUN’s message to fans were shown on screen and fans sang along to At Gwanghwamun, creating a heart warming atmosphere.

At the end of the show, KYUHYUN disclosed that the day before his trip to Malaysia, he was down with flu, and was still not feeling well the night before the show. This brought worries to the singer and he aimed to do his best for the night. Thankfully the meds helped and the unwavering support by fans made him better. Although non of the imperfections were noticed due to his professionalism – he humbly apologised for any imperfections and promising a return with a better performance.

We would like to thank our friends at WebTVAsia for the invitation.
