[Event Coverage] EXO back in KL for EXplOration in Malaysia

As promised, the boys of EXO brought it’s 5th installment of EXO PLANET, EXplOration to Malaysia. The group, fresh from their ‘Obsession’ comeback, performed to a not so surprisingly, another sold out concert.

It was a wet day (as it usually is whenever EXO performed in Malaysia), but the weather didn’t dampen the fans’ enthusiasm. Most of the fans didn’t miss the memo on the dress code of the night – beige or latte colour. Fans of all ages were seen in similar colours and it looked so good as if an Instagram filter was added. It was later revealed that SEHUN was responsible for the colour as a Malaysian fan attended a signing event in Korea (weeks before the concert) and asked a colour that he liked, and he answered beige, thus the colour of the night was selected.

The colours were more beautiful when around 6pm, the lights were dimmed and the colours of the ‘Eribong’ (lightstick) illuminates
the stadium. Shortly after the opening VCR was shown, 6 boys from EXO PLANET shows up, with BAEKHYUN mouthing wow, as he saw the full stadium. Opening the performance with a powerful performance of Tempo, everything else was forgotten except for EXO, and the love of EXO-Ls.

Despite performing with only 6 members with XIUMIN and D.O currently serving their mandatory military service and Chinese member LAY concentrating on solo activities in China, the show went on without a glitch and as good as ever. The group performed a total of 24 songs for a duration of over 2 hours, complete with solo and unit performances.

As with all the EXO PLANET concerts the stage extends towards the middle of the stadium, bringing EXO closer to the fans. The stage director amazed fans in this concert installment as when the group performed at the extended stage, beautiful coloured lights descended from above, as if floating in the middle of the venue.

Fans were chanting and singing together with EXO, but the most obvious were chants from the fans asking for Obsession to be performed. During the ending ment, KAI finally gave in to the fans requests saying that he wished he could perform it too and willing to if the other members agreed to it. While SUHO mentioned that they promised to perform the song in another concert, CHANYEOL strides to the centre of the extended stage and started singing the intro ‘I want ya, I want ya, want ya’ and the rest is history. EXO performed an ‘acapella’ version of their new hit song, along with fans’ singing as the background.

When it was time to say goodbye, the group performed their encore stages while fans rained the stage with toys and funny headgears for the boys to play with. Cheeky members, BAEKHYUN and CHANYEOL had a roll trying most of the gifts that they received, making fans laugh looking at their antics.

Before bidding the fans goodbye, BAEKHYUN promised that they will return for a better show, and to fans’ delight, KAI mentioned that for the upcoming concert, he would like to have it for 3 days so that he can spend more time with the fans.
