K-popped! Dreamz in Genting Highlands

K-popped! goes to Genting Highlands again! We were there for the MTV Asia Awards 2008 earlier this month, so what warrants another visit? City of Entertainment: On the road to Genting Highlands…again No, we didn’t develop an addiction to the casinos on our last visit. We were there for Dreamz, a stage extravaganza of technicolour body-hugging costumes, illusions and a white lion and white tiger (more on my encounter with the magnificent beast later)! AMBP shoutout Thanks to the Editor and small team behind the AllMalaysian Bloggers Project (AMBP), K-popped! got to enjoy the show last Saturday (Aug 23). Head North: Just follow the signs Orchid was the designated driver for the trip and we made our way up the mountain on a gloomy afternoon. It was easy getting to Genting Highlands as there were many road signs along the way. Apart from that, we saw a billboard for the Dreamz extravaganza along the highway. Show: Don’t forget to take Exit 803A for a night of Dreamz We decided not to drive all the way to the top of the mountain. Firstly, it would put a strain on the car and secondly, why drive in the pouring rain negotiating dangerous

K-popped! meets Kenny Sia

At the recent 2008 MTV Awards Asia in Genting, Liz and i got the chance to meet Malaysian super-blogger Kenny Sia. What do you mean you haven’t heard of Kenny Sia? If you are in the Malaysian blogging scene, you would surely have heard of him. If you have not, then head over to Kenny Sia’s blog and take a peek. He is funny, witty and often includes political satire in his blog. 26 year-old Kenny also comes across as sincere and generally a fun loving person who simply loves to blog and share his experiences. He is the top Malaysian blogger and gets mind boggling page views and comments (in the hundreds!) in each post – the numbers that K-popped! (and i am sure other bloggers) can only dream of. Well, Kenny Sia (who hails from Kuching, Sarawak) was invited to the MTV Awards Asia as well. Liz and i met him at the Pavilion in Genting when we were collecting our media tags for the event. Liz, who is not usually keen on blowing her cover as being 1/3 of the K-popped! Trio, was eager to meet Kenny Sia. He obliged to take a photo with us, K-popped!

My experience on the MTV Asia Awards Red Carpet

As most of you who have been following this blog would know, i had the chance to photograph on the Red Carpet at the recent 2008 MTV Asia Awards in Genting, Malaysia. This is my first time on the Red Carpet, much less photographing the gorgeous stars. I was very intimidated. Some photogs had very sophisticated equipment and years of experience. Some had more than one camera, some had a two-step ladder to help them get a better shot. All i had with me was my Nikon D40 with its kit lens. No extra zoom lens, no external flash… RTM reporter giving a live report. It was pandemonium on the Red Carpet. Fans were screaming and everyone was excited! Photographers and media were on one side of the Red Carpet, and we were confined in a wooden box about chest high. Official photographers of the event however, get to walk around freely. It was a photography battlefield out there, and i had no friends. Everyone was vying for good pictures. To each his own. You’ve got to push and squeeze your way through to get a good shot. I even heard of a photog stepping on someone else’s equipment bag

Words by LizPhotos by Orchid Yo people! It’s Orchid and Liz here reporting live from Genting Highlands and we met Super Junior earlier this evening. Yay. K-popped! minus Rooster will be going to Genting tomorrow[Map courtesy of Google Maps] For the benefit of non-Malaysians, let me tell you more about this place called Genting where the MTV Asia Awards will be held. Genting Highlands is also called the “City of Entertainment”. To those who are not familiar with Genting, in a nutshell, it’s the Las Vegas of Malaysia. Located on a hill, it has a cool climate all year round. People usually go there because it houses Malaysia’s one and only casino. There are also outdoor and indoor

2008 MTV Asia Awards in Malaysia

Read our entries on the 2008 MTV Awards Asia here! Super Junior Press Conference, Red Carpet pics and more… Finally, Malaysia is about to see some (almost?) guaranteed K-pop action, thanks to the 2008 MTV Asia Awards. Coming soon: The MTV Asia Awards is set to rock Malaysia The prestigious pan-regional music event is going to be held right in our backyard folks, at the Arena of Stars in Genting – City of Entertainment. Genting Highland is Malaysia’s “sin city” as it’s famous for its casinos. The city on a hill is also known for its haunted hotels as many have committed suicide after losing big – probably their life savings – at the casinos. Hmm, I don’t make a very good spokesperson for the place, huh? Anyway, Jared Leto of 30 Seconds to Mars will be hosting the August 2nd event. Jared Leto: ‘It’s an honour to be a part of what I’m sure will be an exciting andunforgettable night in a magical and beautiful country. MTV has been an importanthome for 30 Seconds to Mars throughout our worldwide journey. I am very proud tojoin everyone in such a unique and gorgeous location like Malaysia. It is going to
